Hey everyone. How is it going? I’m Matt and I’m hear to talk about the comics/tv/film news that caught my attention and I feel should be brought to yours. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s installment of The Impact.
San Diego Comic Con. Prepare For Battle.
Comic Con is less than two weeks away and you can feel the excitement starting to grow. With each passing day we are getting teased about the four day geek fusion reactor that is Con. They’ve even started releasing the daily schedule with some really exciting programming. You can check them out here THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY. Yes, I am looking forward to The Walking Dead panel and I desperately want to see the first look at Man of Steel but as someone who wants to learn more about making comics there is some fantastic programming this year. Archaia is holding a panel on how to pitch. BOOM! is holding a panel on editing comics, and this is all just a taste of what’s available. If you find the right panel Comic Con can offer fans such a real look at the industry, beyond the marketing and hype and I can’t recommend it enough. You can find out all the pertinent information HERE at the official site.
Tony Daniel Leaving Detective Comics With Issue #0.
On Friday Tony Daniel announced on his Facebook page that he will be leaving Detective Comics with September’s issue#0.
“It’s been a long and adventurous journey for me, but there are other projects in the pipeline that I’ve been itching to do and I felt the need to scratch the itch,”“Next week DC will reveal some information on what one of the projects is I’m involved with. Then I’m gearing up for something I’ve wanted to do for a while in early 2013, a project where I hope to grow even more as an artist and a professional. It is top secret, and probably won’t be revealed until the fall. I want to thank all my friends, family and fans for supporting me through these crazy last few years. Onward and Upward!”
Gregg Hurwitz, who is writing the issue #0 has been confirmed by DC to NOT be taking over the book, which makes sense since he is currently on Batman The Dark Knight. I have a feeling we will learn who is replacing Daniels just in time for Comic Con. Who would you guys like to see take over? Personally I would love to see I, Vampire writer Joshua Hale Fialkov. I think his previous handling of the character in Superman/Batman and I, Vampire was great and he would knock it out of the park.
This October The Punisher Goes to War With the Avengers.
This week Marvel released a series of teasers telling us “This is War.” Many speculated that it was for The Ultron War storyline Bendis has been teasing for years. It turns out it was for the return of the Punisher series, Punisher War Zone, which looks to be pitting Frank Castle against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. I for one have been loving Greg Rucka’s run on Punisher and am really hoping he will be writing this series as well, at least for this arc. All will be revealed in two weeks at the Amazing Spider-Man panel at SDCC on July 15th.
Who is Alpha??? Apparently He is Spider-Man’s New Sidekick.
Earlier this week Marvel released a teaser asking us, ” Who is Alpha?” and now we know. Starting this August in Amazing Spider-Man #692 Alpha a.k.a Andy Maguire will be Spider-Man’s new sidekick. Marvel released the following preview to wet fans appetite. How do you guys feel about Spidey getting a partner? While I am a bit leery Spider-Man has always been a hero who works well both solo and with others. Along with Dan Slott’s ability to make most any Spider-Man story entertaining I will definitely give it a chance.
