The Impact:December 11th-17th 2011

Published on December 16th, 2011

Hey Guys. Matt here, thanks for taking the time to check out this week’s installment of The Impact. As we approach the middle of December promotion is ramping up for all the upcoming events from the big two and a lot of new material is breaking from all the upcoming comic related movies. So sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Joe Simon and Eduardo Baretto R.I.P.

simonjoeLast week we lost Jerry Robinson As I was typing up this weeks column I was very sad to learn of the passing of Joe Simon and Eduardo Baretto. Simon was 98. Working with Jack “The King” Kirby, Simon was the co-creator of Captain America, Sandman, and the Manhunter and many others amongst their accomplishments they were pioneers, creating romance comics.

At the time of his passing Eduardo Baretto was 57. He had been battling meningitis since 2010. During the 1980’s Baretto was the artist on the New Teen Titans, Batman, and The Shadow. He drew one of my favorite Elseworlds Superman: Speeding Bullets, where baby Kal-El is found by Thomas and Martha Wayne.

We here at Comic Impact want to extend our condolences to the families of Joe Simon and Eduardo Baretto.

Creative Team Changes Continue for “The New 52.”

Courtesy of  The Source. Earlier in the week we learned that Gene Ha will be illustrating Justice League #7 and 8. This was to be expected, and at least we got the entire first arc drawn by Jim Lee who is scheduled to return with issue 9. The preview pages drawn by Ha look fantastic I look forward to reading these issues which will include the Geoff Johns Gary Frank back up story “The Curse of Shazam.” This week it was also revealed that following the departure of Sterling Gates Rob Liefield is both writing and drawing Hawk and Dove starting with issue number six.

New International Banners for The Avengers.

Courtesy of IGN. Check out the new international banners for The Avengers. Nothing really to add this is just cool.

New Posters For The Amazing Spider-Man (and OFFICIAL SITE) and The Dark Knight Rises.

Courtesy of SuperHeroHype. Check out the latest posters for The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises, two of the most eagerly anticipated movies of 2012. I like the design sense for the Spider-Man poster, it evokes the silhouette teaser poster for Episode I (and I say that as a good thing, that poster was cool.)

You can also check out the new official site for The Amazing Spider-Man HERE. The site has character bios and images, I have a feeling (or spider-sense) that we should expect a second trailer with in the next two weeks. That said The Dark Knight Rises poster is phenomenal. The poster is character driven and sets the stakes and tone of the movie. What do you guys think??? The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3rd 2012. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises prologue… My Impressions.

Tuesday night I had the pleasure of seeing the prologue to The Dark Knight Rises. Want to know what I thought??? Click HERE.

New Poster and Trailer and poster for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

Courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. Check out the latest poster and trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Not going to lie this looks all shades of ridiculous. Not sure if it will be good ridiculous or bad ridiculous but I’m sure I’m going to see it. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens in theaters February 17th, 2012.

Well that is all the news that fit to print. I hope all of you have a great weekend. I’m Matt Todd and that is this week’s edition of The Impact.
