Review: Booster Gold #44

Published on May 23rd, 2011

Ok,I know what you’re thinking, “Is Simon going to review all the Flashpoint tie-ins?”  I can tell you, no way dude. Yet, I can tell you if you ever wanted to know who Booster Gold is, then this issue if for you, as the team of Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund does a great job to recap Michael Jon Carter’s, aka Booster Gold’s, origin story . Right after that, Booster becomes our eyes and he is lost just like the rest of us when it comes to Flashpoint.

Jurgens does an amazing recap of Booster’s life, which also helps new readers. As someone who has always loved the character, I was not sure when was a good jumping-on point for people to start reading this book until now.

It’s a bit funny, this is the only regular ongoing title that is a Flashpoint tie-in. Jurgens does a great job of making Booster the man out of time.  This works because we go on the ride  with Booster as we try to find out some of the mystery of Flashpoint. We find out a bit about the war with Wonder Woman and Aquaman, which is going to be one of the main storylines in Flashpoint.  The end of this book also has an old Superman villain form the 1990’s show up. The first two storylines of Flashpoint have been smart introductions to a world full of mystery.

The other amazing part of Booster Gold #44 is the artwork by both Jurgens and Rapmund. There are some pages where I feel like I am flying along with Booster, such as the big splash page as we drop in the story.

Booster Gold  is the book to watch out for, as it will make an impact in the Flashpoint storyline. I hope they people who pick up this book  because Flashpoint will stay on and go for the ride.

Dc Comics has officially announced that there will be a second printing of Booster Gold #44 this June. I know I can’t wait for the next one, as this was one of my favorite comics for the month of May.
