Marvel’s Big Shots Initiative

Published on March 19th, 2011

So, that C2E2 event in Chicago is happening right now and we got some pretty awesome news from it. A couple of weeks ago Marvel announced that this summer we would be getting brand new series for the characters Moon Knight, The Punisher, and Daredevil as part of their Big Shots Initiative. We knew almost immediately that the new Moon Knight series would be written by Brian Michael Bendis with art from Alex Maleev. Sadly, we haven’t had any information on Daredevil or The Punisher, until today.

During the Cup o’ Joe Panel at C2E2 it was announced that The Punisher would start up in August with writer Greg Rucka and artist Marco Checchetto. Rucka has written Detective Comics for DC and Wolverine for Marvel. Having worked on those books makes me think he’ll have no trouble writing Frank Castle. Checchetto hasn’t worked on a ton of stuff, but he did have a hand in The Amazing Spider-Man Presents: American Son mini-series.

It was also announced that Daredevil starts in July and will be written by Mark Waid with artwork from Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin. Waid is probably best known for his creator owned series, Irredeemable and Incorruptible. Both Rivera and Martin have worked on various Spider-Man books.

So, there you have it. Keep checking back for updates on C2E2 to see what’s going on!
