Sneak Peek: Knight & Squire

Published on July 12th, 2010

Being British myself, I feel it is my duty to deliver this piece of awesome news! Ever since having his British based title, ‘Captain Britain & MI13′ cancelled at Marvel, Paul Cornell appears to have taken his British writings to DC instead! Because starting in October this year, Paul is set to write a six issue mini series about Knight and Squire.

knightsquireIf you’ve been reading any of Grant Morrison’s ‘Batman’ comics over the past 2 years, then you’ll have seen these British counterparts for Batman and Robin crop up again and again in his stories. Paul Cornell is shining a bit more light on the two characters with this upcoming series. Knight and Squire are on odd bunch, they’re typically eccentric and very British in what they do, and they are obviously favourites of Morrison and Cornell, who are both UK writers.

Paul Cornell, has this to say about the upcoming series.

“I’m delighted to be working in DC Britain! Grant [Morrison] always said that he added something to the Knight and Squire’s world with every appearance: we’ll be taking that policy, and the amount of over the top weird and wonderful zany surreal Britishness and dialling them up to eleven. If you’ve wanted to see a milkman fighting a dinosaur in a suit, in a pub, then this is the comic for you.”

A Milkman fighting a dinosaur in a suit, in a pub? I’ll take 3!

Knight and Squire #1 comes out in October 2010, written by Paul Cornell, drawn by Jimmy Broxton, and with covers by the amazing artist Yanick Paquette.

Let’s hope this is one of the first of many redeeming books DC publish, to bring them back up there with Marvel’s recent high standards.
