Sneak Peek: Batman Beyond

Published on March 17th, 2010

From time to time, a character is introduced into the comics universe in a different medium (tv, movie , books) and is such a hit they get written in to the corresponding comics. After a mostly positive reception, Terry McGinnis, from the Batman Beyond cartoon, will be featured in a six-issue mini-series, appropriately titled Batman Beyond.

The series, starting in June, will be penned by Adam Beechen with art by Ryan Benjamin. Beechen is the perfect writer for the task as he has a history of writing in animation (Batman The Brave and the Bold, The Batman) and has previously written a Bat title (Robin).  He is uniquely qualified to translate the charm of the cartoon to the pages of the comics and it doesn’t hurt that Benjamin is involved. Despite being in the extreme minority and not much caring for this character, I can’t help but be excited for this series.

With this announcement, Beechen was quoted on DC Comics website saying:

“The dark future of the legendary animated series comes to the DCU in a six-issue miniseries, as Terry McGinniss, Bruce Wayne’s young successor as Batman, faces his deadliest foe yet — a mystery murderer from the Dark Knight’s past! Old faces return, new allies and enemies step into the light, and the partnership between Terry and Bruce — not to mention Terry and Bruce themselves — might not survive!”

This series won’t be the only place to see Terry. If you want more, be sure to pick up June’s SUPERMAN/BATMAN Annual by Paul Levitz.

Counting down ’til June…
