Madman Atomic Comics To End This August

Published on June 22nd, 2009

I don’t know about any of you folks who read the articles over here at Comic Impact, but I’m obsessed with Mike Allred’s Madman character. In fact, Madman Atomic Comics #1 was the first comic book I ever bought, thus making Madman, probably my favourite comic book character of all time.

The way Frank Madman EinStien questions philosophical and theological theories in his adventures in order to know more about himself and the universe he lives in, is always something that has enticed me as a reader throughout his publication history since he first appeared in the early 90’s.

I’ve been fascinated at how creative the stories have been in terms of Madman’s adventures, and how they drive a person to question everything around them from within each story. For these reasons, Madman has always stood out from other comics in my opinion, and I have loved every issue I’ve read.

But sadly, for those of us who have been enjoying the Madman stories, Mike Allred has annouced that Madman Atomic Comics will end this August.

The series is set to finish at #17 over at Image Comics, with a big ‘blockbuster’ issue and the release of his new album called THE GEAR: LEFT OF CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE.

Mike himself had this to say complementing his announcement to end the series:

“MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS marks the end of an era, but definitely not the end of MADMAN at Image. MADMAN ATOMIC COMICS was a really fun time for me, Laura, Madman and friends. Working at Image gave us an unprecedented freedom with the book, allowing us to experiment like never before! I hope fans have enjoyed the trip thus far and will be back with us on the next leg once we get to it!”

Madman Atomic Comics has been an on-going series for the better part of 2 years now, which is the longest run that Madman has had in consecutive issues.

This is very sad news for me, and for fans of the character. However, Image has said that Madman will return in a different form to be announced at a later date. Which is very comforting news!

Madman Atomic Comics #17 will hit stores on August 19th 2009 and will be priced at the usual $3.50. THE GEAR: LEFT OF CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE, a full length CD, will be released on August 12th 2009 priced at $12.99, with specal edition signed copies priced at $24.99.
