7688header_banner0250668jpgLots of really exciting Captain America news coming your way people so pull up a seat as I give you the low down on every ones favorite star spangled superhero! There has been a lot of talk lately about what Marvel has in store for Cap as issues wise we are coming up on the  BIG 600th issue!! Ed Brubaker is great leading the helm of this all star team of Marvel talent they have coming up and they seem to have a lot cooking as  issue number 50 hits on May 20th and Issue 600 hits June 17. According to Brubaker  Issue 600 is an excellent stand a lone issue that people not as familiar with Cap or Bucky Barnes as Cap can jump in on to catch them up on all the cool things going on.

Here are a few things you can look forward to as we follow what Marvel is calling Captain America Week!

In Captain America Issue #50 we follow Bucky on all his different Birthday’s that he has celebrated over the years.

This takes us on a journey through time as we go through his early days with  Captain America in World War II and follow him all the way up to today where he is still struggling with Steve Roger’s death one year later. This will feature the story by Brubaker and artist Luke Ross.

We then get a special secondary tale by Marcos Martin and Ed Brubaker that lets us follow the original super soldier Steve Rodgers!! And if that wasn’t enough a fan favorite of mine Fred Hembeck draws a specil comic in the back!!!They really threw in the kitchen sink on this one!!

Then on June 17 we get the big stand alone Issue #600!!! In this issue it takes a trip around the Marvel U asking the question “Where were you when Cap got assassinated?”This issue features a tour de force of past Cap artist and writers such as Ed Brubaker and Butch Guice with Howard Chaykin, David Aja, Rafael Albuquerque,Roger Stern,Kalman Androsofszky,Mark Waid and Dale Eaglesham.

The story basically tells the story of  the auctioning off of Cap’s prized memorabilia. Still want more???(I feel like the Shamwow guy!! You know but not a douche bag!) they then give us an Illustrated essay by Cap co-creator Joe Simon!! Still craving more Cap? Well then it is time to make more room because they also give us a full cover gallery of all 600 Cap covers and 78 of the Captain America Comics and more!! Whew!! Wonder what that and more stuff is? What like are they gonna give us his Sheild??!

Then In July we get  the one and only Gene Colan aboard CAPTAIN AMERICA #601

for a 40-page story written by Brubaker! This Sir is insanity as that still is not all.  You may  have noticed they have been running adds for the last few months in the various Marvel books that just feature a star on black chain mail and it says July. Well now we have a new book coming out called Captain America Reborn 1 (of 5). The info is as posted below.

What could all this be building to!!!? Any ideas? I personally love James Barnes as Captain America. I like his character enough that it brought me back to a book I felt was losing interest. We have never really got to see a Captain America like this and I must say it is VERY refreshing so lets hope they don’t bring Steve back (much like I hope they don’t bring Bruce Wayne back).

Well I guess like every one else we will have to wait and see!! As you can tell I am a big fan of Cap and I NEVER thought I would or could say that but they have actually turned a uninteresting black and while character into a multi layered work of art. They have done something with Bucky and Cap’s character to solidify that they were more like brothers and less like a Batman and Robin paraody in turn making them much more intresting and viable as not just characters but real people. And because of that I will continue to say “Make Mine MARVEL!!”

They have also updated this week with a Q & A that is VERY interesting with
Ed Brubaker over at Marvel.com and soon they will have part 2 up so keep checking back for that!!
