Greetings friends and Comic Impact followers! It’s Tuesday, so once again we’re gonna have us a little sit down and discuss another wonderful trade for Trade Tuesday! This week we’re going to be looking at Atomic Robo and the Dogs of War from the creative team of Brian Clevenger and Scott Wegener. A few months ago I did a feature of the first volume, so I thought, why not get into the second volume of this amazing series?
This second volume follows Atomic Robo’s exploits during the Second World War as...

Tuesday has come again my friends! How’s your week going so far? Well, if things aren’t going so great at least you got Trade Tuesday to bring a little bit of happiness into your life. This week we’re going to be taking a look at Spider-Man: Blue from the amazing team of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. As I’m sure you’re already aware, these were the guys that did the outstanding Daredevil: Yellow and Hulk: Gray. At least you should be aware because I have already done Trade Tuesday features on both of those...

Hey Comic Impact friends! It’s Tuesday and it’s time for this week’s Trade Tuesday! Sorry we missed the last couple of weeks, but you know how things get when there’s that San Diego Comic Con. It sure was a lot of fun and I was able to pick up a lot of trades to review for the next few weeks. One trade that I was very happy to get my grubby little mitts on was Screamland. If you’ve been paying attention, you probably noticed that we’ve mentioned the new ongoing series once or twice on the Podcast....

It’s the week of San Diego Comic Con! For comic book fans, it’s like Christmas and Columbus Day combined! But today is only Tuesday, so we’ll have to put our excitement on hold while we enjoy this week’s edition of Trade Tuesday. This week we’re going to take a look at Power Girl: Bomb Squad from Judd Winick and Sami Basri. This book collects issues 13-18 of the most recent Power Girl ongoing series. With taking over a book from the team of Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Amanda Conner; Winick...

Happy Tuesday, my Comic Impact friends! Sorry to say that I missed last week’s Trade Tuesday. It was the 4th of July. Can’t I take a week off? One week! Come on, give me a break! I understand that it must have been hard for you, but don’t you fret because I’m back and this week I’ve got a pretty interesting book for you. The Unwritten by writer, Mike Carey (X-Men Legacy, Hellblazer) and artist, Peter Gross (Lucifer). So, let’s get down to business!
This series follows a character named Tom...

Is there anything better than a Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale team-up? Probably, but you might have trouble naming fifty things that are better than a Loeb/Sale collaboration. One of my all time favorite stories from them is a 6-issue miniseries called Hulk Gray. The hardcover of this trade has been available for quite a while, but just recently became available as a paperback again, so I thought it might be appropriate to be the feature for this week’s Trade Tuesday.
First off, I love the way this story is told. It actually takes...

I hope you all had a good Father’s Day, but today is not Father’s Day, it’s Tuesday and at this point I’m sure you all know what that means. For this week’s Trade Tuesday I decided to go with Jonah Hex: No Way Back which was written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti with art by Tony DeZuniga. Gray and Palmiotti have been writing Jonah Hex since 2006 and DeZuniga was the original artist and co-creator of the character.
This story was published specifically as an original graphic novel and initially...

Today is Tuesday and of course, just like last Tuesday and the Tuesday before that, and so on and so forth, it’s time for a brand new Trade Tuesday! This thing comes out like clockwork! So, what book am I going to share with all of you wonderful people this week? How does Y: The Last Man Volume 1: Unmanned sound? This is one of those series that people have been telling me for years that I need to read. Is this comic book worth all the hype? Let’s find out.
As the title would suggest Y: The Last Man is a story about...

Did you guys check out that new Kirby: Genesis #0 book that came out a couple weeks ago? Doesn’t really look too much like Jack Kirby to me, but you know what does? Image Comics’ Godland from Joe Casey and Tom Scioli. If any book was created as a tribute to the work of Jack Kirby, it’s this book. Back in November of last year, I did a Trade Tuesday that featured the first volume of this series and, while going through my books, I came across the second volume and thought it would be a fun book to go over for...

If you’ve been listening to the Pick of the Week Podcasts lately, you’ve probably noticed that Simon and I have really been enjoying the Hell out of Hellblazer (pun intended). John Constantine is one of those characters that I’ve always liked, but I never read the comics. Despite its many flaws, I even liked the movie Constantine, I’d be willing to see a sequel. But for the past couple of weeks I’ve been picking up a lot of the Trades. The latest, being the most recent trade from Si Spencer and Sean...

Did you guys check out Ian’s article on the 20th anniversary of the release of the movie adaptation of Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer? If not, check it out. Anyway, if you couldn’t tell, Ian is a big fan of the Rocketeer and he was nice enough to loan me his copy of The Rocketeer: The Complete Adventures so that I could feature it on this week’s edition of Trade Tuesday. That’s right, IDW was able to get the rights and release the whole collection in one book.
I think at this point, we all know the...

If you’re a fan of Hellboy, you will love Atomic Robo. Remember a couple of months ago, I did a Trade Tuesday on Killer of Demons? Did you end up reading it? You should have because it was awesome. Anyway, after I read that book, I decided that I really wanted to check out Atomic Robo because both books have art from Scott Wegener. So, I just finished reading the first volume entitled, Atomic Robo and the Fightin’ Scientists of Tesladyne. How awesome is that title?
Have you ever heard of Nikola Tesla? If you haven’t,...

After 70 issues of Invincible, Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley have finally gotten to the story they’ve been building up since the series started, The Viltrumite War. This is one of the few trade paperbacks I’ve purchased where I actually own and have read the individual issues as well. The only time I ever do this is for stories that I really enjoyed and plan on reading over and over again. Also, I thought volume 14 would be a good book to feature for Trade Tuesday.
So, we all know that Invincible and his father,...

Rick Remender has been doing some awesome stuff recently; Uncanny X-Force, and Punisher: In the Blood just to name a couple. Remender also has a fairly long history in horror and horror related books, one of which I’ve decided to feature on this week’s edition of Trade Tuesday. Doll and Creature was a book written by him with art by John Heebink that was published by Image Comics in 2005. It may not be the greatest thing that Remender has done, but it’s certainly one of the more interesting projects he’s...

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope your week is going well, I know mine is because I’ve picked up the latest volume of American Dad!, but that’s not why we’re here. With every Tuesday comes a new edition of Trade Tuesday here at Comic Impact. It only takes one good idea and Axe Cop may be the greatest idea to ever come to fruition. Axe Cop started out as a web series comic drawn by Ethan Nicolle and written by his (at the time it started) five year old brother, Malachai Nicolle. That’s right, this amazing comic is written by a five year old boy. Over the last year and a half this comic has gone from a fun little web comic to a full-length three issue miniseries published by Dark Horse Comics. ComicImpact founder, Simon gave me the first issue of the new mini-series...

For this latest edition of Trade Tuesday, I’ve decided to focus on a book that I’ve wanted to do for quite some time. Mostly because it’s an Ed Brubaker book and everything he writes is pure awesome, especially this book. In case you couldn’t figure it out from the headline, the book I’m referring to is, Criminal Vol. 1: Coward. The art is done by Sean Phillips, who has done all the Criminal books and also does Incognito with Mr. Brubaker.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but one of the movies I’m really looking forward to this summer is Cowboys and Aliens. I just don’t want to wait for July 29th, it’s so far away! Fortunately for me, this movie happens to be based on a graphic novel also called Cowboys and Aliens. The book has been out of print for quite a while now, but the good folks at Platinum Studios have just re-released it so that we could all have the chance to read it before the movie comes out. So, let’s take this opportunity...

A lot of people are starting to freak out because of that whole Mayan 2012, the whole world is gonna end. Blah blah blah. The question is, what could possibly cause the world to end in 2012? Well, in this week’s edition of Trade Tuesday, we’re going to take a look at a book that shows a pretty nasty end of the world scenario. It really shouldn’t be a surprise that the most likely people involved in destroying the human race would be the Nazis. That’s right boys and girls, this week we’re going to...

On a personal note, I am ashamed to admit that I had never read Powers, until Simon bought me the first volume for my birthday the other week. Thanks Simon! It started off a little rocky for me, but as I kept reading I got really into it. So, let’s take a look at this first story line for this week’s Trade Tuesday!

I thought that after last week’s Trade Tuesday, which featured Daytripper, it might be appropriate to feature a book that’s a little bit more lighthearted. What better book than everyone’s favorite book based on an animated television show about life in the year 3000, or so? I’m talking about Futurama, of course. That’s right, Bongo Comics doesn’t just do The Simpsons, it’s also been doing the Futurama comic book since before the show was canceled. Written by Ian Boothby, with pencils...

This week, we have a very special Trade Tuesday for you. You might be asking yourself, “What makes this so special?” Well hold your horses, if you would just give me a second, I’ll get to that! This week, we’re going to be looking at Vertigo’s Daytripper, by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba. While this ten issue series was coming out I kept hearing people talk about how good it was, Simon even made it his pick for one of the POW podcasts. So when this trade finally hit the stands a couple of weeks ago,...

Another Tuesday has come up out of nowhere, which means we have a brand spanking new edition of Trade Tuesday! This week we’ll be taking a look at The Flash: The Dastardly Death of the Rogues. If you remember, we had a Trade Tuesday a couple of weeks ago that focused on The Flash: Rebirth, and as I said in that review, it just wasn’t what I expected it to be. So this week for Trade Tuesday I really wanted to review a Spider-Man book. Why? Because Spider-Man is awesome, so I went through my books and found Spider-Man Reign. I bought this book a while ago and for some reason I never read it. Probably because I was trying to catch up on Invincible and Walking Dead. I can’t believe how long I let this book just sit because it is amazing, one of the best Spider-Man stories I have ever read. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with The Goon, I’ve only read the first issue and the one-shot Dethklok Vs The Goon. I like what I’ve read, but I never really picked up on the series. Recently I saw Volume 10 of the series entitled: Death’s Greedy Comeuppance, and because I’m always looking for new stuff to read I thought why not? The fourth and final trade of The Astounding Wolf-Man which collects issues 19 through 25 of the series has finally hit shelves after months of me waiting impatiently for it. I’m really disappointed that this book has ended, Robert Kirkman and Jason Howard have done an astounding (pun intended) job on this book and twenty-five issues just isn’t enough for me. I partially blame myself for this book ending because I only read it in trades, but I can’t change the past… yet.

Changes to the website, new videos, and hey, did you check out that interview with Matt Fraction? How awesome was that?! Well that got me thinking about The Immortal Iron Fist: The Last Iron Fist Story, that first Iron Fist trade written by Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker. Okay so I’m definitely not the biggest fan of Lobo, in fact my only experience with the character was that one episode of the Superman Animated Series where he comes in as a bounty hunter and causes trouble for Superman. It was a good episode, he was voiced by the brother in Everybody Loves Raymond (on a side note, I don’t love Raymond). Granted I think I was about twelve or thirteen when I last saw that episode, but he was funny. Looking back on the character now he makes me think he was one of those lame 80’s...

Whenever you think of super heroes or comic books in general there’s always the same characters that initially come to mind: Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, The Hulk, etc. While he may not be in the top five superheroes of all time, he definitely belongs in the top ten, of course I am referring to The Flash. He’s just as iconic as any of the other super heroes I mentioned, but he just doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. There’s been talk for years about making a Flash movie, but it never seems to happen,...

For any of you guys out there who aren’t aware, Marvel has this whole series of books referred to as “Marvel Noir.” Most of these books (if not all) take place in the 1930’s and feature some of our favorite Marvel superheroes if they were around in that time. I was avoiding most of these books for a while. I didn’t care for X-Men Noir, and haven’t read Wolverine Noir or the first Spider-Man Noir. I did read Punisher Noir and Iron Man Noir and I enjoyed both of those. I do like how Spider-Man...

Believe it or not I read a Superman book. I know, it’s like seeing Al Gore drive a hummer. Now I don’t necessarily have anything against the Man of Steel, it’s more of a “I never really got into Superman” kind of thing. The only comics I have with Superman in the title are the Superman/Batman books, so I don’t really have any knowledge of the character. Well what do ya know?! J. And since it is a Trade Paperback and I just read it for the first time (thanks to fellow Comic Impact contributor, Ian (Candydish) Candish I thought I would use it as the feature book for this week’s Trade Tuesday!

Sadly Jack Kirby never seems to come back to life to make mine better, but we got the next best thing, Godland. When it comes to Green Lantern most people think Hal Jordan, but for about ten years Hal Jordan was either Parallax or The Spectre. The nineties wasn’t the best time for comics, and getting rid of Hal Jordan is one of the biggest reasons for this. Thankfully nothing lasts forever and Geoff Johns decided enough was enough and it was time to bring back Hal in the miniseries: Green Lantern: Rebirth. Moon Knight is a difficult character to get interested in, at first look you might think he’s just Marvel’s answer to Batman which is what I thought for a long time. But when you get into the history of the character and you find out that he has very little in common with Batman. For starters Moon Knight will kill and...

Let’s forget that the movie adaptation of The Spirit and Robo Cop 3 ever existed, instead let’s focus on what Frank Miller was good at, writing comic books. In the early nineties Miller along with artist John Romita Jr. wrote what is arguably the best Daredevil story, Man Without Fear. Dylan Dog is kind of like a cross between movie Constantine and Hellblazer Constantine, with a little bit of Marx Brothers thrown in to spice things up. It’s quirky, at times horrifying and the artwork will confuse and amaze you.
The Cover for Dylan Dog Case Files
The first thing that stood out to me about the book was the size of it. A mammoth 680 pages of comics! Mike Mignola’s cover art (and inserts!!!!) drew me in, and the quick witted dialogue sold me on the whole idea. To be honest, it didn’t hurt that...

Kicking Trade Tuesday back off (hopefully to a flying start) this week, I, Rob, aim to review the first trade paper back of a recently revived series from Marvel Comics, one which I feel would put an extra twenty years of life back into any octogenarian, by just reading it. Although not a proven belief, I still believe it would do just that, so back off, or at least back off so far that you walk yourself into your local comic store and pick yourself up a copy of Guardians Of The Galaxy: Legacy.

Occasionally when you focus a camera you noticed things that are the same but different, by that I mean that they are a bit blurry and not in focus to what will hopefully be a crisp, clear picture. Almost a doppelganger of what will be. The New Invaders written by Allan Jacobson with art by C.P. Smith and Jorge Lucas was that for me in a GREAT way.
The New Invaders Trade collects issues 1- 9 of the series and features Cap Johnny Walker, The Thin Man, Spit Fire, Namor, Joseph Chapman AKA Union Jack and The Blazing Skull. Just...

After wrapping up the conflict with the Governor and the abandoning of their safe spot, we were all asking the same question. What’s next? Walking Dead isn’t about in your face sadistic violence. It’s not over the top or realistic. It’s an exploration into human depravity, that which makes us tick at the basest levels. In a lot of ways, what’s implied behind the violence is worse than the violence itself.
How many times have you asked yourself what you would have done in that hopeless situation?...

In 1985 I was only seven years old. I was living in a small town called Cherbourg in France reading comics such as Asterix,TinTin.Lucky Luke and more Then one day I walked into the store that my mom and dad used to own and saw an Iron Man toy. I was in love with this toy and yet I had no idea who the character was. All I saw was that classic title “Secret Wars” on the toy and I fell in love with the Marvel Universe. Sure I went back and read Secret Wars a few years ago and it’s not that great looking back...

Well it’s Trade Tuesday and you know what that means- the cable bill is late! Well no, not really, but I am forced at gun point to talk about a trade I have recently read… and almost on cue here comes Simon with a gun. So on that note, it is time for me to start writing about it.
The trade I picked this week was Marvel Comics’ Daredevil: Lady Bullseye written by Ed Brubaker and drawn by Michael Lark, which collects issues 111 - 115 of Daredevil. This story has some back ground from the previous arcs by the same...

Another Tuesday and another Trade. We’re heading back 400 years and we’re bringing the Marvel Universe with us to ‘1602’, Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert’s alternative Marvel universe set in Elizabethan England.
I love a good alternative universe tale, stripping great characters back to their iconic essence and placing them in new surroundings which can either highlight or even destroy their known legacy. When done well these stories cement our love for the characters. When done badly… well…
Fortunately this tale is...

Hey Comic Impact readers! So this is it, my first ever Trade Tuesday, thus adding me to the line of writers here who participate in one of the sites most popular features! I’m really excited to get things under way and talk about the book I’ve chosen. So because this is my first ever Trade Tuesday, I wanted to throw in a review of my favourite collected comics ever- to really get things started off on a high note!
So I chose the Halo Graphic Novel, as published by Marvel Comics back in 2006. I love this book with...

Since the conception of “Trade Tuesday” I’ve known that I’d cover this very special series that is my all-time favorite. Here at Comic Impact, we’ve all read a LOT of comics, so when we say something is our favorite - you better damn well listen up. I’m going to be splitting this up into three parts. The entire series of Supreme Power spans 18 issues, not including the spin-offs, so next month will be issues 7-12 while this month is obviously 1-6.
For those unfamiliar with Supreme Power it’s...

I wanted to check out something a little more on the indie side, so I went with The Bomb published by Asylum Press. Originally released in August 2008, Steve Mannion is the writer and artist of the trade and holy shit does his talent shine!
The Bomb is a series of T & A black and white short stories of the superhero/horror genre that are crude, hilarious, and sexy all at the same time. It’s also jam packed with pin-ups, which is appropriate considering the trade’s main story line takes place in the late 1930’s/early...

David Lapham’s Young Liars vol. 1 entitled “Daydream Believer” from Vertigo was one of my favorite books of last year, and was also one of our first reviews here at Comic Impact . I still have yet to read volume 2 called “Maestro,” and I have never read Stray Bullets but I can recall some of Lapham’s work on Batman.
I had heard about Silverfish from DC’s Vertigo imprint, so I picked it up and decided to feature it in this week’s Trade Tuesday segment!
Now having read the book I can tell you that...

You don’t have to be a drunk irresponsible super hero who also happens to be a multi billionaire industrialist genius like Tony Stark to appreciate this book! It’s Tuesday and you know what that means….TRADE TUESDAY!!! The book I am reviewing this week is The Invincible Iron Man: The Five Nightmares. I should preface this with the fact that I have never been a big Iron Man fan. I know I know. You can thank Simon for that one. Well Simon and Matt Fraction… and Salvador Larroca.
I only preface with that...

What you gonna to do when they come for you? Ask Bad Boy because it’s Trade Tuesday and I’m bringing you a super creator team up! The comic legend Frank Miller teams up with Brit super artist Simon Bisley to bring what I’d like to say was a forgotten gem of story lost in the mists of time. I’d like to say that but I can’t, so I’ll give you Bad Boy, an interesting blip of story lost in the mists of time. Originally published as a serial in the British GQ magazine it must have seemed like a great idea at the time. Bring...

What if instead of landing in Smallville, Kansas, Krypton had exploded 12 hours later and Superman ended up in Russia? That is essentially the entire premise of Superman: Red Son. Yes, instead of the classic ‘S’ on his chest, we are treated to a Superman donning the very communist hammer and sickle instead. I think it looks much better, but I also say better dead than red, so what do I know? Instead of Martha and Jonathan Kent raising the man of steel with American virtues, Superman is brought up by the late, great...

In 1970 DC charged comic book writer Denny O’Neil with revamping the super hero, Green Lantern. In 2004 the DC top brass appointed the same task to comics scribe Geoff Johns. The order was easier said than done: make Green Lantern interesting again. Not only was Johns assigned the task of reviving the shattered Green Lantern Corps., but he also was told to (literally) breathe new life into the man who destroyed the Corps: Hal Jordan, the greatest of the Green Lanterns.
Enter Green Lantern: Rebirth.
Rebirth is a six issue story...

Are you someone who does not like flying? If so, you are just like the main character in this weeks Trade Tuesday feature, Air vol.1: Letters From Lost Countries by G. Willow Wilson, compliments of DC Comics’ literary imprint, Vertigo Comics!
Her name is Blythe and she hates flying. Did I tell you she is also a flight attendant for Clearfleet Airlines? Don’t go looking them up for cheap flights to Hawaii- they’re a fiction airline.
One day Blythe sees this guy who she thinks is a terrorist while working for...

I think I’m going to turn green I’ve written and talked about Planet/World War Hulk so damn much. I read every single tie-in associated with the World War Hulk series. Today’s Trade Tuesday I am going to talk about which ones were good that you should check out and now dwell on the bad ones like I did last time. Speaking of which, wow, I wrote a lot didn’t I
World War Hulk: X-Men
When Hulk was sent into outer space by the Illuminati, one of the members wasn’t present to make this decision. That member...

It’s Trade Tuesday and I’m stretching the rules. Why choose one trade when you can choose two? Especially when it’s Judge Dredd!
But seriously, why two? Well I’ll tell you why. These two titles cover the short first and second longer appearances of Dredd’s archenemy, Judge Death. Every hero needs an archenemy. Sure, there can be many enemies but all of them need a main bad guy. Batman has the Joker, Superman has Lex Luthor, Sherlock Holmes has Moriarty and Judge Dredd has Judge Death.
Dredd is the future walking...

While Frank Miller’s Dark Knight series has traditionally been given more credit for the revival of Batman. The Killing Joke stands apart as a classic tale of sanity, insanity and the fine line that divides the two.
When I was a kid there was a few pages that scared the shit out of me. Maybe I was to young to read it when it was first published by DC Comics in 1988. I was only 10 years old. Yet when I was reading this book at that time I knew that this was something special and shocking that I would never forget.
It is...

Hey kiddies it’s Tuesday so you know what that means!!! Yes it’s TRADE Tuesday!!! I know we are all excited. The book I chose to review this week is Union Jack: London Falling. So go grab your tea and crumpets and crank up your favorite Clash records cause we are going back to the motherland!!!
The story starts off with the new Union Jack (Joey Chapman) putting his butt on the line for England against a group of terrorist super villains. The line up of attacking C list villains are Machette, Batroc the Leaper, Jack O’Lantern...

Last time I did this segment, I wrote about the very amazing Planet Hulk. If you are reading this article and have not read Planet Hulk then I will warn you there are nasty, vicious, sexy spoilers laying ahead. But, you can just read my article on it and that will get you caught up.
World War Hulk takes place on Earth as Hulk has finally found his way back and is looking to seek revenge on the people that exiled him. WWH was one of Marvel’s big crossover events about a year and a half back, so there were many titles that...

Forget the movie, which with comic books is a pretty standard phrase, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman are back in their not quite third adventure. Black Dossier is more of a side project than a full adventure but if you’re a fan then it’s a damn fine read.
Set in world where all literary works are actual history the story begins in 1950’s Britain at the end of the post WWII Big Brother government, where two associates of the League steal the government’s Black Dossier; their sum knowledge of all incarnations...

One of the most grotesque, bewildering and mind-blowing trades I’ve read all year – Rick Veitch’s The Maximortal is truly an old-school TP worth picking up and/or dusting off to read again.
For those unfamiliar with Veitch and his style, be forewarned that it will take some getting used to if you’re usually found with bright and shiny, digitally-cleaned-up pages in your mitts. Created in 1992, Veitch’s artwork in Maximortal is classic comic book purist with not-so-standard arcs.
If you’re like me and enjoy mass...

Welcome to another edition of Trade Tuesday, where I post something I want to trade and then you and I barter. Ohhh! Only kidding! As introduced last week by our good friend Sheldon, Trade Tuesday explores a title we are currently reading be it a past, present, or future title (Secret Invasion 2: Kree is soooo awesome by the way).
So for my first go at this I’ve chosen Planet Hulk. To give you some background on Planet Hulk, it went down about 2 and a half years ago during Civil War. The Hulk was launched into a wormhole...
