Who doesn’t like charity? It makes the world go around! It’s good for everyone and you damn well know it! A small, local volunteer group called Good Juju has been working on a pop culture/pin up/cosplay calendar lately and they plan on donating the proceeds of it to The American Cancer Society’s upcoming Relay For Life in Simi Valley.
The group recently came to Galaxy of Comics in Van Nuys, CA to do one of their photoshoots. We got a chance to sit down with the head honcho over at Good Juju, the lovely...

We love Matt Fraction’s ‘Casanova‘ series here at Comic Impact. We picked the first collected volume titled ‘Luxuria’ as one of our Book Of The Month’s a while back (if you do not know what the story is, just download the podcast in the link), and recommended that those of you who had not read it should make it a top priority to check out. Well, if you never got the chance to read it first time around, then this is your second chance! No excuses this time folks!

If you listened to the latest Pick Of The Week podcast, then you will have heard us talking about how awful the upcoming X-Men series looks. It’s been almost 20 years since Marvel have put out an X-Men #1 so I hear, but I can imagine that to some people this is a pretty big deal, and it surely must be pretty damn special, right? Well we’re not so sure here at Comic Impact (excluding Dana, probably, ha!), we think the idea of the X-Men and vampires seems a little too silly to be taken seriously. Then again, our movie...

Unfortunately we cannot show you any live action shots of Chris Evans as Captain America in his role as the man of the people in the upcoming Marvel hit movie ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, but we can show you the next best thing, thanks to AICN!
As of today, some rendered images of the actual concept designs for Chris Evans as Captain America have been posted online, and we are able to show you them. They are confirmed as being “the real deal” and not just fan mock-ups.
They look pretty badass,...

On Wednesday June 9th, Dark Horse Comics will be releasing Predators #1 (of 4). This series is being published in support of the upcoming film; ‘Predators‘, directed by Nimrod Antal. I am excited for the film as it has my favourite actor of all time in it, Adrien Brody. Therefore, in celebration of the film’s release later this year, I know I’m not going to miss out on this 4 issue limited series by Dark Horse.
Predators #1 is written by Mark Andreyko and David Lapham, with artwork by Guileherme Baldi...

Marvel Comics recently released their solicitations for the month of August online, and as always, this gave fans the opportunity to see what the near future holds in store for their favoured titles.
A few things caught my eye. The Amazing Spider-Man issues for August (#640 ʁ) are priced at £3.99 each, which I hope is not a perminant pricing decision as I was hoping to start reading that series again within the next few weeks. Also, there seems to be a Deadpool #1000, which even by Deadpool standards is getting ridiculous....

Let’s face it, I love Batman. I love porn also, so when I first heard about this 1960s parody porn movie, I was thinking it was a dirty joke from a few of my friends but now that I have seen a trailer for this, I still can’t believe that it is coming out.
Also, it does not help that Lexi Belle is in this film playing Harley Quinn and Batgirl is in this film as well, and we know how I feel about Batgirl. I find her so sexy. Well I think it is great that the porn industry is poking fun at one of the best...

Aside from a preview of ‘Avengers: Academy’ being released today by Marvel, we’ve also got a special preview from the guys over at DC Comics for once. It’s a big comic, one that will divide Bat-fans. It’s Grant Morrison and Chris Sprouse’s ‘The Return of Bruce Wayne #1′.
This first issue of the long awaited 6 issue limited series appears to see Bruce back in caveman times, as he aims to make his way forward in time to the present day (or something insane, and dare I say ‘awesome’,...

The third and final new Avengers comic have just been previewed by Marvel. ‘Avengers Academy’ follows suit along with its brothers in arms; ‘Avengers‘, and ‘Secret Avengers’ to see the way into a new Heroic Age for mainstream Marvel continuity.
‘Avengers Academy’ is pretty much a revamp of ‘Avengers: Initiative’, re-thought for this new era of continuity. It introduces a few new characters (such as internet sensation, Fortress), whilst sticking with some of the characters...

If you enjoyed the sneak peek of Avengers #1 earlier on this week, then hopefully you’ll equally enjoy this preview of Secret Avengers #1. This is Ed Brubaker and Mike Deodato’s latest comic, set for release on May 26th this year.
So in the pages we’ve been teased with, it looks like we’re seeing Valkyrie and Black Widow going undercover, for what I may as well assume at this point, to give this very naughty man the shock of his life. Instead of getting drunk with these fine ladies and having a bit of...

If you’re one of the people who reads the Marvel Solicitations each time they are published, unlike myself, then you may have noticed that for the months of May onwards, there are no entries for the Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy series.
This is because those two series (of which the most recent issues of both, I reviewed ) are going on hiatus while ‘The Thanos Imperative’ takes the main stage for 6 months. I got in contact with Dan Abnett a few days ago, and he told me that Nova would definatly be tieing in...

Marvel have released a sneak peek preview at what will probably be their biggest release of the entire year. That’s right, it’s a first look at Avengers #1, set for release Wednesday 19th May this year. Brian Michael Bendis is set to write the series, and as I’m sure you were aware, John Romita Jr is set to illustrate this hopefully ‘epic’ series.
Marvel have been a bit naughty though. Usually when they give us a sneak peek look at an upcoming comic, we get given about 4 or 5 wordless pages of interior...

'Steve Rogers: Super Solider' Cover Art
We broke you the news of the Secret Avengers as they were being revealed, and we even revealed the entire cast of Ed Brubaker’s Secret Avengers just a few days ago. Now, with regards to the advert depicting the entire cast of the Secret Avengers, everyone seemed a bit stumped as to who the blonde haired character was in the foreground, wearing an unfamiliar costume, which slightly resembled something with a Captain America feel.

One thing I’ve come to realise as a bigtime fan of Marvel’s cosmic line of books, is that some sort of ‘big event’ is never too far around the corner, or that one is most probably going on already. Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, bless their hearts, can’t seem to keep these big, epic ideas down, it’s as if they have to publish them all! It must be just over a year ago now that we saw the introduction into War of Kings, which moved into Realm of Kings quite dramatically and rapidly, to which...

Yes ComicImpact readers, I may love Scott Pilgrim more than Iron Man. I know that must be weird reading that from me, but I do, and I am not the only one. As Bryan Lee O’Malley has both been honored with multiple awards including the Harvey, Doug Wright, Joe Shuster, and National Cartoonists...

As we come towards the conclusion of DC’s epic Blackest Night story we are all excited and looking ahead to the follow up, Brightest Day. Before the days of the color war and eventually Blackest Night, these stories were quite contained within the Green lantern titles, never really effecting the outside world.
Geoff Johns took a great risk and allowed the rich history of the lanterns to bleed into other titles changing the course of a lot of key books. At first i was a little concerned. Having read some Green Lantern,...

Is Aquaman coming back for Brightest Day? I am not sure but I can tell you that I love the cover to the second issue of Brightest Day, Mr DC Comics him self Geoff Johns had this to say about Brightest Day
“Brightest Day’ is about second chances. I think it’s been obvious from day one that there are major plans for the heroes and villains from Aquaman to take center stage in the DC Universe, among many others, post-Blackest Night. ‘Brightest Day’ is not a banner or a vague catch-all direction for the DC Universe,...

I just found out that there is a new animated Batman film in the works and the news gets better from there. The name of the film slated for release sometime this year (maybe in time for San Diego Comic Con?) is Batman:Under the Red Hood or Batman: Under the Hood depending on who you ask. A few years back I was happy that Marvel stopped publishing a plethora of Spider-Man books and limited the Web-Crawler to only Amazing Spider-Man. Now, it looks like there is a new ongoing title that will be coming out called Web of Spider-Man which will also feature Spider-Girl stories as well.
Marvel had this to say about it:
“With the ‘Gauntlet’ storyline starting up and many classic adversaries of Spider-man coming back to the book, we wanted to find a place to tell you more about them without it eating up too...

I’m sure anyone who reads comics at the moment is aware of the colossal event taking the Marvel 616 universe by storm. ‘Dark Reign’ books are hitting the shelves faster than it takes me to slurp up a bowl of spaghetti bolognaise (which is incredibly fast)!
I myself was excited once Secret Invasion ended earlier this year for what the future held in the Marvel Universe. Tony Stark got booted, and Norman Osborn became the boss of pretty much anything he wanted. Things were taking yet another drastic turn!
Thus began Dark...

DC canceled the Blue Beetle series sometime ago and now the hero is returning to comics!
As some of you know Sheldon is in love with the Blue Beetle, and now we can see his boy in an 8-page back up story that begins in Booster Gold #21.
Are people going to be buying Booster Gold just for the back up story with Jaime Reyes (the new Blue Beetle)? Only time will tell. I do love that Mike Norton is working on this book.
