Hey everyone, I have a special guest writer this week. Steven Meissner of SoloRoboto.com and My main man The Monarch will be giving a tutorial on how to make a totally bitchin’ Monarch Crown!
The Crown was very straightforward, and the simplest of The Monarch’s pieces to make. Notice I did not say easy – it took plenty of time, but was not intensive in any way. Essentially, you will be making a cone, sculpting some shapes on top of it, and painting the whole thing.
NOTE: I have made 3 Crowns (and three cowls). I will...

This is a question I get asked all the time, so I felt it was time to have a little sit down and discuss how to choose a cosplay.
For me, choosing a character to cosplay is never a challenge because of how I look at cosplaying. When I decide to make a costume it’s because I have a certain love for the character or can relate to the character in some way. I ask myself the question, “What character do I love?” and that makes everything much easier!
Buuutttt Kiiiiiiit! I can’t be my favorite character because, I’m...

Oh man, San Diego Comic Con is right around the corner and that means it’s time to finish up those costumes and somehow pack them/get them to the con. Here are some tricks I’ve used and ones my friends have told me about to help you get to the con in fine form.
1.Make a List: As you can tell from my articles, I love lists! They’re organized, they’re clear, and they’re simply the best way to lay out the information you need to stay on track. Make a packing list, and a “getting ready in the morning” list.
2.Print...

San Diego Comic Con is right around the corner, and many of you are probably hard at work making your costumes (I know I am!). With this in mind I thought I’d try to offer some help in the most hated area of costuming - glove making. It’s a pain, it’s horrible, and you will probably fail the first/second/even third time you try. I know I still screw up making gloves, and I’ve made probably a dozen at this point.
The steps below are technically not the correct way to make gloves, but it’s my lazy way and it gets the...

Manners, You Can Bring Those into a Con
*warning this blog may get a little bitchy, we’re talking about some of my/my friend’s pet peeves
Scenario: You’re at a convention, you have a pretty cool cosplayer in your sights, and you wish to take a picture of this person, here’s how you should (and more importantly) shouldn’t do it. First of all, if you see a cosplayer having a conversation with someone please do not be rude and indignant and insist that the cosplayer take a photo for you RIGHT NOW! Do you like it when you...

What’s that, you say? You haven’t completely slaked your lust for Wizard World Anaheim content? Well, boy howdy! Have we got something special for you wonderful people! TIME FOR CON SKETCHES!
As many of you know, we at Comic Impact LOVE getting ourselves some sketches at conventions. Con sketches really are the best, most unique souvenir you can get from a convention. Every comic convention will have an artist alley, some are big, some small. Some of the more better known artists will charge a bit more...

Cosplay Girl of the Year, Kit Quinn, asks the question, “Who is Thor?” at Wizard World Anaheim. Find out who knew the god best, which Marvel creators threw their two cents in the mix, and who just had no idea what she was talking about. Who knew this question would evoke that “deer in the headlights” looks from so many. Also, we learn age has no factor in knowledge. So watch ask yourself, how much do you know about The God of Thunder.
Just in case you did not know, Thor is directed by Kenneth Branagh....

What you got under there? …Under where?
Ohhh such a naughty topic this week!! We’ll be talking about all the unmentionables superheroes use to keep their bits and pieces looking tight and right under all that spandex! Now, the needs of the boys are different from the needs of the girls. So fellas, I’ll be honest with you, I’ve never had to deal with your…particular needs, so I’m going to talk about the girls first, and then hand it over to Clyde Max to cover your needs!
But first ladies!!! Let us talk about underwear,...

Hey all, Kit here with your monthly Cosplay Girl of the Month post!
To start this whole adventure out I figured I should try to set some things straight. Specifically, what the heck this cosplay thing is, and what it means! Now as those who are in the cosplay community know, trying to set parameters or rules that must be met for a person to be defined as a cosplayer is impossible (and slightly dangerous.) But here it is as I see it.
So Cosplay, where the heck did that word come from? Well it’s a mash up of costume play. Which...

Hey there Comic Impact!
I’m Kit your Cosplay Girl of the Year for 2010. I’m shocked, honored, and giddy all at the same time to have this title bestowed upon my humble head. I first of all want to give a shout out to all the other girls who were in the running this year because dang there was some talent there. It was really weird being in a competition with so many other cosplayers that I’m actually a huge fan of, and some of my best friends. I’m really excited to write this blog for Comic Impact, I have lots of ideas...
