Image Comics sent us the following teaser image with no press release, no info whatsoever. Whatever it is, this does not look good for Rick and the rest of The Walking Dead family. Remember, The Walking Dead TV show, based on Robert Kirkman’s hit comic comes back to AMC next week on February 12th, just a few days before Valentine’s Day. Nothing says true love like zombies trying to kill your love ones!

You want to know one of the best comics you should be reading? Reed Gunther #6, by Chris Houghton and Shane Houghton, from Image comics. I know what you’re saying: “But it’s issue six, and I haven’t read the previous five issues!” That’s fine, because this is a one-shot that explains how Reed (The Cowboy) met up with Sterling (The Bear).
Without giving too much detail about this issue, we find out that Reed had a hard time following in his father’s footsteps as a young child. Yet Chris Houghton...

Because I don’t want you to tell me I spoiled this book for you.
First of all, when you’re talking about Chew, you have to give it up to Rob Guillory: that man is amazing. Sure, I know John Layman is the mastermind...

However, there is an artist who I feel a lot of people don’t know who he is. That is shame because of how amazingly talented he is, and his name is Boo Cook.

However, I am going to do something a little different here at “Horror on the 13th.” I am going to talk a little bit about the horror industry, which I find to be a fascinating one. It is not often that we here at Comic Impact get advanced copies of comics but Daniel Freedman and Tom Coker have been nice enough to supply us with an advanced copy of their new Image comic Undying Love which comes out this week! The book itself looks to grow the vampire mythos into a bold new direction. I am sure you are saying to yourself, “Self, why do I want to read another book about sparkly vampires who are mopey?” Read on to find out why this book is none of those things and find out why this could be your...

It hasn’t even hit it’s 20th issue yet, but Image Comics’ Chew is the next in line for a small screen adaptation.
It was reported by Deadline today that Chew will be featured on Showtime as “a quirky half-hour cop show.” It will be directed and executive produced by Stephen Hopkins who comes from Circle of Confusion, the company that brought us AMC’s hit comic adaptation, The Walking Dead. The script for this adaptation was written by Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer (Eureka), and the...

Have you ever worried that you might be going insane at your job? You ever think that your boss is a demon from Hell? Is there a small angel that follows you around and tells you to kill people? Well then, I have the perfect book for you. Killer of Demons written by Chirstopher Yost, who you may remember from X-Force and New X-Men. It also features from pretty darn good artwork from Scott Wegener, who you may know from Atomic Robo. So, let’s take a look at this book on this brand new edition of Trade Tuesday.

Horror – the genre has been around since the movie industry started, because who doesn’t love a good scare, right? Guess what. There are also horror comics, and they have been around a long time, too. The problem with horror comics is the exact same problem that horror movies have. There are so many of them made all the time, and there is no way to tell whether or not they are going to be awesome or terrible. That is where I come in.
My name is Susan, and I am here at Comic Impact to be your guide through the truly terrifying...

So, everyone loves Brian Michael Bendis, right? It’s probably because everything he does is so freaking awesome! On a personal note, I am ashamed to admit that I had never read Powers, until Simon bought me the first volume for my birthday the other week. Thanks Simon! It started off a little rocky for me, but as I kept reading I got really into it. So, let’s take a look at this first story line for this week’s Trade Tuesday!
This book introduces us to homicide detective, Christian Walker as he is doing some...

Last month, we here at ComicImpact.com started a new feature called Best Comics Book Covers Of The Month. On the first day of the month I will be posting some of my favorite covers of the past month, so let’s take a look back at some of the best covers of February, 2011.
My favorite cover of the month was Brightest Day #20. I don’t read this book in individual issues, but I’m going to pick up the hardcover. But, I love this cover! It is some of the best David Finch artwork I have seen in a long time.

In my last review I mentioned how Image Comics usually puts out a good product. I’m not sure I can say that about The Mission.
The first issue begins in Chicago with our protagonist, Paul Haskell, at his doctor receiving his annual physical. Enter the mysterious, old soothsayer named Gabriel (who prefers to be called Gabe) who confronts Paul in the dark parking structure of the doctor’s office. Gabe tells Haskell that he’s been chosen for a mission and he plays a part in the war between good and evil. Paul...

Now, while the official name of this book is Ian Churchill’s Marineman, I’m just going to refer to it as Marineman to save on word-economy. Some of our other Comic Impact writers have teased me in the past about reading “off the map” books, but it’s fun to do every now and then. I saw Churchill’s name on the book a few months ago when issue #1 was released, and I remembered he’d done a good stint for pencils on Hulk a little over a year ago when Jeph Loeb was writing. So I figured, “I’ll...

Robert Kirkman is one of the most prolific and talented writers in the comic book industry today. He has brought us a large catalog of original, creator owned titles such as Invincible, Battle Pope, Tech Jacket, The Astounding Wolf-Man and The Walking Dead, which has been adapted into an incredibly successful AMC TV series. One of his newer series’, which has blossomed into a very interesting read, is Haunt.
Written by Kirkman with pencils by Greg Capullo, inks by Jonathan Glapion and co-created by Todd McFarlane (who...

Do you enjoy Robert Kirbman’s “The Walking Dead” comic book or how about the original series on AMC. How would you like to have some figures?
Thanks to McFarlane Toys announced today two separate deals concerning the licensing rights of “The Walking Dead.” The first is with AMC to create action figures based on the original series that premiered on the network in October of last year. The second is with Robert Kirkman to also create action figures based on the comic-book series created by him. This is the...

Would you like a book that doesn’t care about those pussy Comic’s Code regulations about blood and gore? Well, then Invincible (or any Robert Kirkman Image Comics book for that matter) is the book for you!
Written and created by Kirkman with outstanding art by Ryan Ottley, Invincible #77 continues the “Viltrumite War” story arc that began in Invincible #71. Last issue, Invincible and Omni-Man were recovering from the massive ass kicking they received from Thragg, the ruler of the Viltrumites. After...

If you pay any attention to our humble little site, you know that most of us (except Sheldon) absolutely love Image Comics’ Chew.
Chew is written by John Layman with fantastic art by Rob Guillory. In Chew, because of a horrible bird flu pandemic, a prohibition is placed against all poultry products and the FDA has become the single strongest branch of the United States government, much like the CIA. Tony Chu is an FDA agent with a strange psychic ability (called cibopathic), he gets a psychic impression from everything...

The fourth and final trade of The Astounding Wolf-Man which collects issues 19 through 25 of the series has finally hit shelves after months of me waiting impatiently for it. I’m really disappointed that this book has ended, Robert Kirkman and Jason Howard have done an astounding (pun intended) job on this book and twenty-five issues just isn’t enough for me. I partially blame myself for this book ending because I only read it in trades, but I can’t change the past… yet.
At this point Wolf-Man has escaped...

Happy Trade Tuesday, it’s only a few more days until Christmas my Comic Impact friends! Still having trouble figuring out what to get someone? Why not a nice Trade or graphic novel? Why not The Amazing Joy Buzzards from Image Comics? It’s pretty good, which is why I chose it for this week’s Trade Tuesday. So let’s get down to business.

Do you ever think to yourself, “I wish Jack Kirby was still alive and making those amazing comic books.” I wake up every morning with that thought, followed by, “I want a burrito.” That second thought really has nothing to do with anything. Sadly Jack Kirby never seems to come back to life to make mine better, but we got the next best thing, Godland. I’ve never read this book before, but at the Long Beach Comic-Con a couple weeks ago Simon showed me one of the books at the Image booth, I was hooked...

Well the Holidays are coming up and in this newest issue of Chew, Tony and his pals are celebrating Thanksgiving, a holiday that requires family to get together and enjoy a cooked bird. How appropriate considering that eating bird is prohibited by the F.D.A. so you know this is going to be a great day for our pal Tony.
The issue starts with Mason Savoy enjoying his own Thanksgiving meal complete with wine, cheese, and a chunk of Tony’s ear that he bit off several issues ago. As Savoy chews the chunk of meat he uses his...

Last week saw Image Comics publish the first issue in a brand new series from the minds of Marc Guggenheim, Tara Butters and artist Ryan Bodenheim. From it’s well designed, pristine front cover to it’s Frank Quietly-esque interiors, I’d say that Halycon #1 certainly looks the business. But for another superhero comic, does it offer anything more than the everyday good guy/bad guy story we see in most of our mainstream comics?
Yes, for the most part. Halcyon is a superhero comic (superteam comic, to be more precise)...

In a time of economic hardship it’s hard for people to pay double the normal price for anything. Whatever the item may be, it really better deliver if you’re charging that much extra for it. That said, Invincible #75 does nothing but deliver! In romantic terms, you might call it a “generous lover.”

The Walking Dead premiered on AMC last tonight and I was NOT disappointed. The intensity you get when you read it has been captured on screen so amazingly. In the first five minutes I was already in that slightly uncomfortable but so intrigued I can’t look away place I go to when I read the book. I mean, little girl zombie trying to eat you while holding her stuffed animal is just twisted, yet not another cheesy zombie story. I knew things needed to change from page to screen but was afraid the story would stray...

It looks like Image has found a new way to market the extremely popular Walking Dead series. Due to the highly anticipated TV show, premiering on AMC, October 31, they are reprinting single issues of the comic. They aren’t due to hit stores until January 5, 2011, I’m guessing just after the season ends or just in time for the season finally, and continuing every week for the rest of the year. They are being released for $2.99 each and will be called The Walking Dead Weekly. Now, do I think people who have never...

I know we talk about how great Robert Kirkman is a lot on Comic Impact, but I just can’t stress that enough. I really am grateful for a writer as good as he is. The guys has this insane talent for writing something that is funny and it seems like it’s just a parody, but at the same time it really is a good story. Who else could write Battle Pope? This week for Trade Tuesday we’re going to be taking a look at one of (if not the) most recognizable books from Robert Kirkman, Invincible. Specifically Volume 2: Eight...

If you remember the POW Podcast from a couple of weeks ago the pick went to Guarding the Globe, and I thought why not go back and check out Brit who happens to be the current leader of the Guardians of the Globe. I stopped reading Haunt because the first story arc was not that great. Recently, a lot of people were telling me to give it one more try. Guess what? Pixar Animation Studios has always had a keen eye for finding truly unique and individualistic artistic talents to create visually stunning ways to drive their stories forward. Of the many talented artists working at the studio, four names are most commonly associated with pushing this distinctive look forward: Lou Romano, Don Shank, Nate Wragg and, last but certainly not least, Scott...

Look at Haunt and I think somebody took their Spawn and Spider-Man action figures and just smashed them together, but this series is about as far as you can get from those books while still being in the same genre. For those of you who don’t know about this character from Robert Kirkman and Todd McFarlane, Haunt is about a priest named Daniel Kilgore who is linked to his dead brother, Kurt Kilgore and when the two merge they become a superhero.
