What? Another week has gone by? Well, that can only mean it’s time for yet another Pick Of The Week podcast! Ian has the pick this week and he uses it to display his gargantuan man-crush on Robert Kirkman. As always he’s joined by Simon and as never before he’s also joined by a recent addition to Comic Impact, Ken, who fills in this week for Sheldon who’s out interviewing for a job. Psh, a likely story.
It’s a pretty off the wall podcast with discussions ranging from last weeks comics (duh!)...

Stop the press! Green Arrow is dead! Well just from looking at the cover I’d say so. But now on with the review of Green Arrow #3. Also, does anyone still say “stop the press”?
Last time we saw Oliver Queen he had just been shot in the head by an arrow which left him for dead. Who was the unknown assassin who was trying to kill him? I was thinking the issue would of open with his sidekick Roy Harper, aka Arsenal (Red Arrow) taking down his Oliver as payback for the stuff that went down in the ‘Rise and...

Pixar Animation Studios has always had a keen eye for finding truly unique and individualistic artistic talents to create visually stunning ways to drive their stories forward. In the highly stylized opening title sequence for their fourth film, Monsters Inc., the notable influence of 1950’s animation began to appear. Of the many talented artists working at the studio, four names are most commonly associated with pushing this distinctive look forward: Lou Romano, Don Shank, Nate Wragg and, last but certainly not least, Scott...

A few months back I picked DC Universe Legacies #1 as my Pick Of The Week, and I was hoping that it would still be good after #1 and now I’m posting a review of #4 and I can say I still loving this book! It tells us the story of the DC Universe through the eyes of man on the street, Paul Lincoln, an NYPD officer.
Now there is a new wave of heroes joining the DC Universe team such as the original Teen Titans. Although one of my favorite parts of this series so far has to be when the two Flash’s ( Jay Garrick and...

DC Direct has set out to turn some heads with it’s “Cover Girls of the DC Universe” line of statues which are sculpted after different DC covers drawn by super star artist Adam Hughes. Each statue is quite stunning in it’s own right but one that really stands out from the crowd is Zatanna.
Cover Girls of the DC Universe Zatanna is sculpted by Jack Mathews and inspired by the cover to Catwoman #58. The statue is 10″ tall x 4 1/2″ wide x 4 1/2″ long. Zatanna was the second statue...

One of the biggest surprises of 2010 has been how great the new Flash series has been. Geoff Johns’ writing has been great but what has really made this series spectacular has been the amazing art by Francis Manapul.
At this years Comic Con we got a chance to talk with him and he told us about working on Flash, the future of the series and what’s going on with him soon.

In the time I’ve been writing and producing the Sequential Sunday column I’ve always chosen as my subject matter a certain creator, publishing company, or gallery event. I’m going to go against my own grain this time and choose (of all things) a promotional item, namely the British press kit produced to herald what was, at the time, the upcoming Watchmen movie’s release.
What looks at first like a plain brown box actually conceals this behemoth of a press kit.

I don’t know a lot about Green Arrow to be honest, sure I know he looks like Robin Hood and he is a member of the Justice League, or one of these DC team books, but that’s all.
This and The Flash comic are the only Brightest Day books that I am reading. Now for the two issues in a row J.T. Krul has made me a fan of Green Arrow. The story starts right after the end of the first issue as Hal Jordan comes to check up on his old friend Ollie Queen, who is now living in the forest. As Ollie tells Hal Jordan “You...

The new Flash series by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul is only up to issue four and already it’s one of the books I look forward to the most every month. The reintroduction of Barry Allen into the modern DC Universe has been done flawlessly. They’ve shown how he’s a man truly out of time who is unfamiliar with modern life. They have also made a point of showing that Barry and Iris aren’t jumping right back into their old relationship, they’re taking things slow which seems very natural.

The award for the ‘Most Sadistic Bastard of the Year’ goes to… Grant Morrison. Undeniably, the man writes good comics and he is an astonishly smart writer, but by God does he lather everything in mystery and cryptic mumbo-jumbo. As Wonder Woman’s 600th issue hits comic shops today, fans will see a whole new look for Diana, designed by Jim Lee. Instead of her trademark bathing suit she is now in, what looks like to me, a costume from a Michael Jackson video. Her blue jacket, clearly has shoulder pads and looks like a “members only” jacket. Power Girl’s solo series has been one of the biggest surprises for me in a while. I’ve been a fan of the character but never expected her series to entertain the way it has. The writing team of Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray did an excellent job of keeping the series light hearted but at the same time giving Power Girl challenges that really put her to the test both in her super hero life and her personal one, as Karen Starr. Also, it does not help that Lexi Belle is in this film playing Harley Quinn and Batgirl is in this film as well, and we know how I feel about Batgirl. I find her so sexy. Well I think it is great that the porn industry is poking fun at one of the best...

Aside from a preview of ‘Avengers: Academy’ being released today by Marvel, we’ve also got a special preview from the guys over at DC Comics for once. It’s a big comic, one that will divide Bat-fans. It’s Grant Morrison and Chris Sprouse’s ‘The Return of Bruce Wayne #1′.
This first issue of the long awaited 6 issue limited series appears to see Bruce back in caveman times, as he aims to make his way forward in time to the present day (or something insane, and dare I say ‘awesome’,...

This is becoming less unordinary these days by simply going to your local comic shop you can find one of these handy dandy stamps on the cover of your favorite book and more then likely the next hit movie. You know the stamp I mean. The one that reads now a major motion picture. As of the last few years we have seen some unlikely titles like Wanted,Hellboy,Kick Ass,Watchmen,300,and now the recently announced Incognito. I am sure before I’ve even finished writing this article they will announce another new title coming!...

The Jonah Hex trailer finally hits the net. I have never read any Jonah Hex comic books, but I know there are no supernatural elements to the story. I don’t know why this looks like bad horror, if I want that fix, then I can watch master of horror. I know all you fanboys are going to be saying how hot Megan Fox is, but I am sure I can find a better looking woman on some bad porn site. Plus, she can’t act to save her life.
This film looks as bad as Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman, and we all know how bad...

It was a slow week for comics here at ComicImpact. Dana either went back to the sex club, or she is sick, and not just in the head.Rob tried doing the Pick of the week but due to technical difficulties he couldn’t, so we let him go play in the volcano. So who is left around to do the podcast?

At the retailer’s summit occurring in Chicago before C2E2 last weekend, Diamond Comics, distributor of weekly comic book issues, floated the idea of moving the release day for comic books to Tuesday, with the comic book retailers paying 5 dollars a week more. They put the idea to a show of hands vote to the retailers in the audience, and Tuesday releases narrowly won out. Now it sounds as if this is all speculation and discussion amongst Diamond.
Why do they want to make comics come out on Tuesdays? Because of Hollywood....

How much will you pay for your Marvel comics? A lot of Marvel’s readers will have to be asking themselves this question over the next few months, and take into serious consideration what titles they are reading, and how much they are willing to spend. Because it has been revealed that this July, a number of 70 Marvel Comics, will be priced at $3.99 (that is 68% of Marvel’s comics on sale).
'Avengers' will be an expensive read for some fans
It looks like the majority of Marvel’s new titles that are set...

Aside from all the usual comic book banter, you’ll get an exclusive and heated debate on the art of Alex Ross. As well as Simon admitting to getting a Captain Cold tattoo, if people send him enough money! A lot of hilarity in this episode, and as I mentioned, some awesome comics including some hit...

For those of you who enjoyed Blackest Night for the most part, and especially enjoyed seeing Lex Luthor as an Orange Lantern alongside Larfleeze, then you’re going to be one of the lucky people whose day I may well just make with this piece of news.
It has been announced that British writer Paul Cornell (Captain Britain & MI13, Dr. Who) is set to start work over at DC Comics, on ‘Action Comics’. He will be working alongside artist Pete Woods (World of New Krypton)...

I love action figures, and I love most of DC’s hugely successful Blackest Night line. Sure I have been know to talk mad shit about these figures from time to time, but I still enjoy playing with a new one. Just ask my mastercard bill.
When I first heard about the Blackest Night figures, I wish they’d have made more Black Lanterns and thanks to the seventh installment of the series we have some. The figures are: Black Lantern Superman, back from the dead…again; Sinestro Corps Member Arkillo, dissenter defeated,...

I love Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire. I have been enjoying The Atom when I get to see him in his comics, and I have always been a fan of Mahmud Asrar Mahmud, the artist of Dynamo 5. Although I have never actually read any of the Dynamo 5 comics myself, I always enjoy looking at his work, and now thanks to DC’s Source page, I give you the cover art for ‘Brightest Day: The Atom’, a one-shot comic coming out in July, that leads into a regular second feature in ‘Adventure Comics’ that will start running after issue #516.

I am officially a big nerd. It is new comic day and I just got through reading Flash Issue 1 by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul and all I can think about is THIS is the Flash I know and love and I refuse to take off my new ring! Lately many of you who listen to the podcast know I am the strictly Marvel guy. There is more to me then that though..I just happen to LOVE the Marvel Universe. Some of my starter comics and toys though were DC and I still hold a fond place in my heart for a few DC mainstays the Flash being one of...

Geoff Johns’ The Flash Secret Files:Origins 2010is a great read for fans new to The Flash. There is a short story giving you a glimpse into Barry Allen’s childhood. It’s really a sweet and sad story at the same time. You see a young Barry being bullied and picked and the counter to that is his close relationship to his mom. It’s the relationship with his mom that makes her tragic murder, he is still dealing with, more poignant as an adult looking for answers. The small story also shows the bound of all...

For this week’s column I’ve decided to go against my own grain and instead of reviewing an independent comic or spotlighting a certain creator or gallery show I’d like to profile a website that every sequential art fan should know about, but many currently may not: www.comicartfans.com.
It’s a pretty safe bet that anyone reading this collects comics. And while I agree that having a first print of a notable issue or that hard-to-find variant cover is awfully keen, there is nothing cooler within the hobby...

I’m typing this having just heard the news myself, Dick Giordano, comic legend has passed away at the age of 77 after complications from pneumonia. I could give you a dry list of all the books he worked on, all the individuals he introduced to the industry and tell you about how he got his start, but I’m not going to. I’d rather keep this genuine and express what this loss means to me as an Inker. Bear with me:
I can’t stress enough the huge impact this man has had on the comics industry and on my life...

If you ask anyone who’s been reading comics for a sometime, who the biggest dick head is in comics, they would all tell you it’s ex-Robin; Jason Todd. The Robin that was beaten to death by Joker with a crowbar in “ A Death in the Family .” After all, this is the guy who tried to steal the tires from the Batmobile.
I was never a big fan of Jason Told. I recall in 1988 calling a A 1-900 number used to ask fans to decide if Jason Todd should live or die. Fans voted for Jason’s demise, by a minuscule...

From time to time, a character is introduced into the comics universe in a different medium (tv, movie , books) and is such a hit they get written in to the corresponding comics. As we come towards the conclusion of DC’s epic Blackest Night story we are all excited and looking ahead to the follow up, Brightest Day. Before the days of the color war and eventually Blackest Night, these stories were quite contained within the Green lantern titles, never really effecting the outside world.
Geoff Johns took a great risk and allowed the rich history of the lanterns to bleed into other titles changing the course of a lot of key books. At first i was a little concerned. Having read some Green Lantern,...

“Brightest Day’ is about second chances. I think it’s been obvious from day one that there are major plans for the heroes and villains from Aquaman to take center stage in the DC Universe, among many others, post-Blackest Night. ‘Brightest Day’ is not a banner or a vague catch-all direction for the DC Universe,...

The name of the film slated for release sometime this year (maybe in time for San Diego Comic Con?) is Batman:Under the Red Hood or Batman: Under the Hood depending on who you ask.
