You may recall that a few days before this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, ComicImpact staff member Ian posted a blog about The Westboro Baptist Church and their protest at Comic Con. Just watch this video and you can see how the Comic Con fans truly feel about them. Also, you may see a very special sign that has to do with your favorite comic site (Comic Impact.com). While walking the floor at Comic-Con we came across this great idea from artist Pat Bussey. Bussey had created a “Monster Menu” for people to choose from and than he created a very individual and completely unique sketch. No two are the same, even if you chose the same parts as your friends. This was probably the most inventive sketch I saw all weekend. If you’d like to see more about these awesome sketches check out our video and read our Con Sketch article for pictures.
Pat Bussey is also the creator of The...

With the great Venture Brothers battle of last year in the past, Vertigo’s Fables panel was open to all who wanted to attend. However, there was almost a hostile take down of the Mythbuster panel next door when the wall started rumbling and the floors shook. Speaking at the panel was Bill Willingham, Shelly Bond, Steve Leialoha, Todd Klein, Andrew Prepoy, Chrissie Zullo, Chris Robertson and Matt Sturges most of the creative team, minus Mark Buckingham. Buckingham was back in England working on the 100th issue. For attending...

One of the biggest surprises of 2010 has been how great the new Flash series has been. Geoff Johns’ writing has been great but what has really made this series spectacular has been the amazing art by Francis Manapul.
At this years Comic Con we got a chance to talk with him and he told us about working on Flash, the future of the series and what’s going on with him soon.

Every comic book convention offers a million and one things for one to occupy themselves. You can browse classic books, look for really cool statues, get pictures with cosplayers or just shop around for what looks cool. But, some of the best memories you can find at comic con will come from getting sketches at your convention’s artist alley.
For those who don’t know, artist alley is the area at any given convention where many comic book artist have tables set up so that they can sell convention sketches. Many...

We all know that I love Scott Pilgrim, and in fact we all do here at Comic Impact. This past weekend at doing Comic Con’ they had something called ‘The Scott Pilgrim Experience’.
‘The Experience’ was a spot to grab a custom-made screen printed Scott Pilgrim shirt and play the new video game based on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley and Oni press. I got my self a badass ‘Sex Bob-Omb’ t-shirt that will be on me in a few weeks when the film opens.

When it comes to Marvel Comics, I live and breathe for the cosmic comics they publish. The cosmic goodness is consistently outstanding and it’s all down to Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning who nail the science fiction genre in maintstream comic books like no other(s) around today.
Just as there are many other cosmic fans in the same boat as me, we were all quite astounded when Abnett & Lanning revealed at SDCC last week, that Rocket Raccoon and Groot will eventually be getting a 4 issue miniseries of their own. It’s...

Comic book fans have a history of getting into heated debates with each other but at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con we may get more than we bargained for.
On Thursday July 22 from 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM the Westboro Baptist Church will be at the convention to protest. They say on their website that the reason behind their planned picket is that comic fans go beyond being enthusiasts and fall into “idolatry.”

Ever since I started the long drive home from San Diego Comic Con ‘09 there has been one thing on my mind: San Diego Comic Con ‘10! It’s like Disneyland for comic book geeks! I put a little money away all year long to spend at Con and we always make a weekend of it with a hotel room full of pizza and drinks for after we get back from Con…but the food’s gotta stay away from the comics. The money is to be distributed as $100,000 a year and will help pay for shuttles to the newest hotels grouped in to the room block. The number of hotels has doubled to 64 and will have reduced rates. It is also reported San Diego has included free meeting rooms at the city’s three major bayfront hotels and reduced rental rates at the convention center over the next five years.

Last weekend gave us the inaugural edition of the Wizard World Anaheim Comic Con and although I had fun I have mixed feelings about the event to say the least. I do have a bit of a rant concerning the event (and others like it) to get up on the soapbox about, but I’d like to save that for the end of this report and spend some time first spotlighting some of the cool comics creators, dedicated cosplayers, and eminently fun pop culture ephemera to be found at the event.

It had to be said, and who better to say it then your one and only Comic Film Snob! If you were living under a rock them you probably didn’t know that Comic Con has just come and gone, which oddly enough gave me my inspiration for this week’s post. One of my favorite things this weekend at Comic-Con was at the Hasbro/Marvel panel where they showed off their sexy Galactus figure from the Marvel Universe line.
David Vonner of Hasbro told us at the panel that this ‘Devourer Of Worlds’ will be 19″ tall and have lights and electronics. This will be part of the Gigantic Battles line and should be released in 2010. Now I need to find my self a Silver Surfer from the Marvel Universe line.

I really have no good, justifiable reason why I’ve never attended Comic-Con until this year. Growing up in the mid-west certainly makes the commute difficult, but now that I’ve lived on the west coast for 11 years (and the last 6 of those years in Southern California) it really makes no sense why I’ve waited until now to go.
