Can being depressed be entertaining? If you are reading Image’s Li’l Depressed Boy by S. Steven Stuble, you know the answer is yes. If you aren’t reading this book, shame on you. I had the opportunity to talk with Struble about where he came up with the idea and where he is taking the story. Find out if music influences Struble’s writing, or if his writing influences music. This is one of those books you can’t judge by its cover, or title. This is something we can all relate to. I mean, who hasn’t...

This year’s Eisner award winner for “Best New Book” was Vertigo’s amazing American Vampire. I was lucky enough to talk to the creative team behind the book, Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque. This was the second annual talk with Scott Snyder, and he sure had a a lot to say about the future of the book. We even got a never before heard fact about what to expect in the upcoming storyline that takes us into the 1950’s. Also, what connection does Snyder have with Elvis? Which comic creator does he...

What’s that, you say? You haven’t completely slaked your lust for Wizard World Anaheim content? Well, boy howdy! Have we got something special for you wonderful people! TIME FOR CON SKETCHES!
As many of you know, we at Comic Impact LOVE getting ourselves some sketches at conventions. Con sketches really are the best, most unique souvenir you can get from a convention. Every comic convention will have an artist alley, some are big, some small. Some of the more better known artists will charge a bit more...

Just when I thought the comic industry was becoming more female friendly in their marketing, Marvel comes along and gives us these pajamas. They are supposed to be a sexy kind of sleepwear for the female comic fan, but really all they are is pretty hideous.
As if society wasn’t hard enough on the female body type and what is an acceptable size to wear, now even a size small can feel like she isn’t thin enough, or have breasts big enough to be a Marvel Heroine. The images on the tops are meant to create an hourglass...

Cosplay Girl of the Year, Kit Quinn, asks the question, “Who is Thor?” at Wizard World Anaheim. Find out who knew the god best, which Marvel creators threw their two cents in the mix, and who just had no idea what she was talking about. Who knew this question would evoke that “deer in the headlights” looks from so many. Also, we learn age has no factor in knowledge. So watch ask yourself, how much do you know about The God of Thunder.
Just in case you did not know, Thor is directed by Kenneth Branagh....

Now that AMC’s The Walking Dead has ended it’s first season, we decided to give you our opinion on how good or bad we thought the show was. I know this is exactly what you were waiting for, to find out what Ken, Ian, Simon, Sheldon and Christina think, so you are welcome. We discuss the pros and cons of changing things from the book, which characters we like and dislike and where we think the show is going in seasons two and three. Plus Sheldon is from Georgia, so find out if watching the show is a little trip home...

That’s right everyone, we’ve still got LBCC content for you! LBCC was a smaller convention (at least compared to SDCC) and was almost entirely artist alley and we got some pretty incredible convention sketches from them.
One of the best souvenirs one can take from any comic convention is convention sketches. At artist alley the creators from some of your favorite comics will do sketches or commissions for you. Some charge for their sketches, others will offer them for free. Some artist will do smaller, quick...

The Walking Dead premiered on AMC last tonight and I was NOT disappointed. The intensity you get when you read it has been captured on screen so amazingly. In the first five minutes I was already in that slightly uncomfortable but so intrigued I can’t look away place I go to when I read the book. I mean, little girl zombie trying to eat you while holding her stuffed animal is just twisted, yet not another cheesy zombie story. I knew things needed to change from page to screen but was afraid the story would stray...

It looks like Image has found a new way to market the extremely popular Walking Dead series. Due to the highly anticipated TV show, premiering on AMC, October 31, they are reprinting single issues of the comic. They aren’t due to hit stores until January 5, 2011, I’m guessing just after the season ends or just in time for the season finally, and continuing every week for the rest of the year. They are being released for $2.99 each and will be called The Walking Dead Weekly. Now, do I think people who have never...

Are we seeing the first photos of Chris Evans as Captain America? Doesn’t look like it, I’m thinking it’s his stunt double, but we do get to see the suit, shield and motorcycle for the first time. His suit looks to be based on The Ultimate Universe Captain America and looks really good.
It’s really detailed and has a vintage color feel to it. The motorcycle has that same vintage touch to it. The body, saddle bags and paint are all very 1940’s, which leads me to believe that the scene they are...

I have to admit, up front, I am not a big Marvel reader. I have been trying to read more though, so don’t go throwing things at me just yet. When I read Ian’s review of the first issue of Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, “I thought this book sounds pretty good” so I picked up both 1 and 2 and boy was I not let down. (Thank you Ian) If you haven’t read his review yet, you should go read his and than come back and read mine.
Book two picks up exactly where book one ends, the Young Avengers...

While walking the floor at Comic-Con we came across this great idea from artist Pat Bussey. Bussey had created a “Monster Menu” for people to choose from and than he created a very individual and completely unique sketch. No two are the same, even if you chose the same parts as your friends. This was probably the most inventive sketch I saw all weekend. If you’d like to see more about these awesome sketches check out our video and read our Con Sketch article for pictures.
Pat Bussey is also the creator of The...

With the great Venture Brothers battle of last year in the past, Vertigo’s Fables panel was open to all who wanted to attend. However, there was almost a hostile take down of the Mythbuster panel next door when the wall started rumbling and the floors shook. Speaking at the panel was Bill Willingham, Shelly Bond, Steve Leialoha, Todd Klein, Andrew Prepoy, Chrissie Zullo, Chris Robertson and Matt Sturges most of the creative team, minus Mark Buckingham. Buckingham was back in England working on the 100th issue. For attending...

While at Comic Con we had the opportunity to talk to the people who create the amazing covers for portable devices, GelaSkins. They have over 100 artists you can choose from as well as being able to upload your own image to create a completely unique skin, or you can choose from a variety of Marvel themes already on their site.
These covers have a durable anti-scratch and anti-UV coating which will protect your electronics as well as keep it’s vibrant colors. The adhesive makes it easy to apply with no residue left...

Anyone reading my reviews knows how much I love Scott Snyder’s American Vampire. I was lucky enough to get the chance to talk with him, fresh off his new exclusive DC contract while we were down at San Diego Comic Con. Find out what is coming in the next story arc for our favorite vampires and learn more about the origins of the different “clans.” Also, hear about what it was like working with Stephen King. So pick up the final chapter in the first story arc of this amazing book by this incredible writer...

When I heard Zenescope was putting a Charmed comic out I was wondering how it would work. I was always a big fan of the show and I was afraid it would be hard to pick up the essence of the show so long after it had been on the air. After reading the first issue I have hope for the series.
I really like the cover by David Seidman. I think the pose was very true to the tv series and the muted colors gave it that magical feel. It also has aspects from the book with the vines and chalkboard. Plus you get the familiar “Charmed”...

The amazing writer Scott Snyder of the hit American Vampire got some very exciting news. He will be exclusive to DC now that he is taking over as writer on Detective Comics in November. This is a big jump for Snyder’s career. I know I am very excited to see what he brings to Batman. Snyder had this to say on the DCU blog, The Source,
“As for the series, I want to play things pretty close to the vest for now, but I can tell you that it’ll star Batman, and will focus heavily on his CSI work and hardcore mysteries...

I reviewed the first issue of American Vampire with very high hopes and all of them have been surpassed by leaps and bounds. Both parts of this two story book, one by Scott Snyder and the other by Stephen King, get better and better along with the amazing art by Rafael Albuquerque. I seriously don’t know what to rave about first.
Albuquerque’s art is so rich with texture and atmosphere. There is actual movement in hair and clothing, nothing is too stiff or posed. People have facial expressions that actually...

As Wonder Woman’s 600th issue hits comic shops today, fans will see a whole new look for Diana, designed by Jim Lee. Instead of her trademark bathing suit she is now in, what looks like to me, a costume from a Michael Jackson video. Her blue jacket, clearly has shoulder pads and looks like a “members only” jacket. Although the pants and fitted top look like a more practical fighting outfit I have to say, this does not say Wonder Woman to me. This says, trendy 80’s “wanna be.”
According to...

A book that stood out to me as overall amazing last week was Birds of Prey. The cover by Ed Benes and Nei Ruffino, the artist and colorist team who also does all the interiors, caught my eye and it was all up hill from there. The cover alone was beautiful. A dull grey and green background helps the colors of the “Heroes” pop. Oracle, Black Canary, Lady Blackhawk, Huntress, Dove and Hawk all look so powerful, like you really don’t want to mess with this group of good looking people.
This was a great first...

Titans came out with an oversized one shot this week Villains for Hire, written by Eric Wallace. This issue has Deathstroke (Slade Wilson) gathering a group of assassins for hire, his very own Titans. And their first mission is to kill the Atom (Ryan Choi) for Dwarfstar. Deathstroke enlists, “Floronic Man” (Jason Woodrue), can manipulate plant life. “Cheshire” (Jade), she is a martial artist, marksman and an expert in poison, ”Tattooed Man” (Mark Richards) with the power to make...

The San Diego Tourism Marketing District, which is a non-profit organization, has agreed to giving Comic Con $500,000 over a five year period. The money is to be distributed as $100,000 a year and will help pay for shuttles to the newest hotels grouped in to the room block. The number of hotels has doubled to 64 and will have reduced rates. It is also reported San Diego has included free meeting rooms at the city’s three major bayfront hotels and reduced rental rates at the convention center over the next five years.

While at Wizard World Anaheim I found this great book Going Boldly by TJ Sullivan. The book is a condensed version of the weekly web comic about Tim Desoto, a mission patch designer for the space program. He is friends with an ego maniac astronaut, Danger “Roc” Strong and has an official space program assigned Gremlin named Ed. Just with that I was so intrigued and very much NOT let down.
I think the greatest thing about this concept is as strange as it sounds it works so well. Ed, is hilarious, the form to all the...

It seems the AMC television adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead has found it’s leading man. The role of Rick Grimes has been awarded to English actor Andrew Lincoln. Lincoln hasn’t done much in the United States but was part of the hit British tv show This Life as well as doing many voice-overs for radio and television advertising.
I have only seen him in Love Actually and have no idea what he will be like as Rick but according to The Hollywood reporter, Kirkman had this to say. “Andrew...

Geoff Johns’ The Flash Secret Files:Origins 2010is a great read for fans new to The Flash. There is a short story giving you a glimpse into Barry Allen’s childhood. It’s really a sweet and sad story at the same time. You see a young Barry being bullied and picked and the counter to that is his close relationship to his mom. It’s the relationship with his mom that makes her tragic murder, he is still dealing with, more poignant as an adult looking for answers. The small story also shows the bound of all...

I was excited when I flipped through Vertigo’s American Vampire. Rafael Albuquerque’s art was eye catching at first glance and I just couldn’t wait to get to the story. Let me just say this now, I was NOT disappointed. It turned out there were two short stories. One story was written by Scott Snyder , who also is the mastermind behind this book, and the other was by Stephen King. Each very different in location and tone but connected by a common character, the first “American Vampire” and...

When I heard there was going to be a book called Time Lincoln, published by Antarctic Press, I was very excited. I thought, now that is an interesting concept. So, of course I picked it up to give you all my opinion on it.
Fred Perry, both writer and artist, brings us Abraham Lincoln and his time traveling posse of Albert Einstein, Issac Newton, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington Carver fighting Joseph Stalin and his henchmen of Adolf Hitler, Fidel Castro, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Mao Tse-tung. How genius is that?...

Seeing as our resident Captain America fan boy *cough Sheldon cough* is too busy to write about this I will let you all know, Marvel has found it’s First Avenger. Drum roll please….Chris Evans aka, Johnny Storm, Lucas Lee (Scott Pilgrim), Jensen (Losers) is Steve Rogers. Evans, is in for a big ride with this NINE picture deal including two Captain America, two Avengers and Iron Man 3. I personally am not completely hating him for the role but I didn’t see him as Steve. I am hoping that he brings it and...

Keeping with the zombie love the site has had recently I am going to talk to you about the Zenescope book, The Waking.
At first glance it kind of looks like any other crime book. A few officers and detectives at crime scenes, overly sexy women with cleavage to spare and ass hanging out of dresses. Yes, I mean that literally by the way, there is a panel where a women’s dress is up around her hips and her ass is out in full glory. With art that is the appropriate amout of dark and rough around the edges. Nothing really...

Hey ComicImapct readers! Since I’m the new girl around here I thought I would write my first review about Girls Comics No. 1 by Marvel. It is done completely by women in the industry. Before any of you dim witted people jump to the wrong idea, NO, it is not all hearts and rainbows. Each story brings something both male and female comic fans will enjoy. Although each team up has it’s own feel, they all seem to fit together.
First I’d like to talk about the amazing cover by Amanda Conner and Laura Martin....
