Cosplay Girl of the Month: September 2013

Published on September 5th, 2013

One of the features we do here at Comic Impact is the cosplay girl (NO anime, manga, role-playing games just comics) of the month, that’s right hot girls dressing up like your favorite super- hero characters. This month we’re privileged to have Gen Sui as the Cosplay Girl of the Month.

1-What is your name?
Gen Sui

2-How old are you?
24

3-Do you read comics and if so, what are your favorite titles?
Yes, I enjoy reading old titles and favourites over, Deadpool Corps, Catwoman, Batman, Gotham City Sirens.

4-What is your favorite comic book character?
Selina Kyle / Catwoman : Her energy, her physical prowess, her free nature & her struggles with inner conflicts attract me most.

5-Who are your favorite artists or writers?
Adam Hughes can pretty much make me buy anything with his cover art, I love David Yardin, J Scott Campbell & Gail Simone but admittedly I could go on there are many talented people out there I admire.

6-What got you into cosplay?
I went to a local convention in Sydney called Supanova and saw all these people dressing up, my response was “You can do this? Wow!” Straight away I started planning a costume for the following year.

7-If you do more than one character which one is your favorite, and if you do only one do you have some ideas for more costumes?
I have a lot of fun dressing up as different incarnations of Catwoman, she’s a great character and connects with everyone from little children to their parents! That said there are so many strong female characters out there and wearing each one of them is a great experience.

8-How long does it take for you to make a costume?
Most of my costumes take a fairly short time to make, a few weeks work permitting, but the research into the costume artwork, the materials I can use etc can take many months in planning.

9-Have you met any of the artists or writers where your costume is based on their work?
Yes I had great fun meeting Stan Lee in Melbourne as Storm, David Yardin who has done some great work of her signed an awesome print of her for me at the same convention.

10-Do you buy any toys, busts and etc. based on some of your favorite costumes?
I don’t go heavy on the merchandise but do buy the odd statue or figurine. I loved the Adam Hughes busts he did for DC Collectables and have a few Gotham Sirens from that range.

11-So do people know you dress up like a comic book hero on your free time?
Yes I’m always chatting to people about the current project and friends and family have seen photos of my work. Its all pretty amusing to them.

12-What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at a convention?
I was walking around as Red Sonja with my sword and being asked for photos and when I put it up on my shoulder I kept almost taking out the people behind me! Happy to report no one was hurt.

13-Do kids come up to you and think you are the real life character?
Catwoman is definitely the character that little kids come up to as if they knew me! They’ll wave and say, “Hi Catwoman!” which is really cute! I also adore meeting little Batmen and Catwomen they’re gorgeous!

14-What do you like to do when you’re not costuming, such as other hobbies?
I work full time and costuming is a hobby that takes up a lot of my spare time. I still manage to enjoy collecting antique military items such as bayonets or interesting knives, eclectic items and clothing from the 50’s and do enjoy my holiday time exploring Australia.

15-Do you have a website or a Facebook? So people can contact you?
