The Impact: September 30th – October 6th 2012

Published on October 6th, 2012

Hey everyone, happy October. Have you all started thinking about your Halloween Costume?  This was a big week with a lot of great news so lets get started with an all new installment of The Impact.

Marvel Now! Releases Three New Teasers.

Marvel continues to tease new titles apart of Marvel Now! This week we got a teaser promoting Frank Cho on a new Wolverine book and a second that seems to indicate the Phonogram team of Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie will be working on a new Young Avengers book and finally we learned that Spider-Man is upgrading his adjective from Amazing to Superior with Dan Slott and artists Ryan Stegman, Humberto Ramos, and Giuseppe Camuncoli as they usher the wall crawler into Marvel Now!

I have to admit I am surprised just how many more Marvel Now! titles are being added. I wonder how many titles there will be total??? If its 52 I would find that hilarious.

MorrisonCon Provides First Look at Multiversity.

Last weekend MorrsionCon was held in Las Vegas and from all accounts it was all shades of awesome. At the “Future of the Third Millennium”  panel Morrison spoke about the long awaited Multiversity project with DC Comics. Multiversity  will explore some of the many worlds in the DC Multiverse and consists of eight 38-page issues (with 8-page backup stories) featuring two bookend chapters, six middle installments that each take place on a different Earth of the DC Comics multiverse, and a ninth book featuring a 20-page story and supplemental material. We got our first look at some of Frank Quitely’s artwork from the Pax Americana which is the world inhabited by the Charlton characters like Blue Beetle, the Question, and Captain Atom. As a Ted Kord fan I cannot wait for this project which is expected to be released sometime in 2013.

WonderCon To Return to Anaheim in 2013.

Speaking of Cons…Right now it appears that WonderCon will return to Anaheim Easter weekend 29-31, 2013. But fans of the Bay area fear not Dave Glanzer Comic-Con International’s v-p of marketing and public relations spoke with Heidi MacDonald over at Publishers Weekly and said that they are trying to work with the Moscone Center to find dates in the fall for a show there. If that happens that show will be called WonderCon and the Anaheim show will be rebranded as-yet to be determined Southern California show. Stay tuned for more information.

Iron Man 3 welcomes Robert Downey Jr. Back to Set. New Trailer October 23rd.

This week Iron Man 3 resumed production as Robert Downey Jr. a.k.a Tony Stark returned to set after he sustained an ankle injury back in August. We also got our first and best look at the new Iron Man and Iron Patriot/War Machine armor which were both spotted on the Miami set.

For fans who were unable to get into Hall H during this year’s Comic Con to see the Iron Man 3 presentation fear not we will get our first look at the movie at 12:01AM on October 23rd when the first trailer will make its online debut. Iron Man 3 hits theater May 3rd 2013.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Screen Tests Five Actresses For Female Lead. Scarlett Johansson Set to Appear.

Alison Brie (Community and Mad Men), Teresa Palmer (I Am Number 4) , Imogen Poots (Fright Night) , Jessica Findlay Brown (Downton Abbey) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) are apparently screen testing for the female lead which is presumably Sharon Carter. Previously it was believed that Anna Kendrick had the part but I guess that is no longer the case. Deadline reports that we should expect an appearance from Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters April 4, 2014.

First Look at The Lone Ranger

This week Disney released the first trailer and poster for Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger. The pulp western starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer looks like it could be a really fun action adventure film. If you have any interest in the character I highly recommend the Dynamite Entertainment by Brett Matthews. The Lone Ranger hits theaters July 3rd 2013.

Courtesy of The Huffington Post. We are less than a week away from the premiere of Arrow which from what I have been hearing is pretty darn good.  DC villain Deadshot will be making an appearance on the October 24th episode entitled “Lone Gunman” and we got our first look at their interpretation of the character in these brand new pics. Arrow debuts October 10th at 8PM.
