The Impact: September 23nd – 29th 2012

Published on September 29th, 2012

Hey Guys this was a very busy week in the comic world so lets just get right into it. Sit back and enjoy this week’s all new installment of The Impact.

Stan Lee Gets Pacemaker.

Recently word had gotten out that the always active Stan Lee had been cancelling appearances which had gotten a lot of the comic community very concerned about 90 year old legend’s health. On Friday he issued a statement revealing he had just received an electronic pacemaker.

Attention, Troops! This is a dispatch sent from your beloved Generalissimo, directly from the center of Hollywood’s combat zone! Now hear this! Your leader hath not deserted thee! In an effort to be more like my fellow Avenger, Tony Stark, I have had an electronic pace-maker placed near my heart to insure that I’ll be able to lead thee for another 90 years. But fear thee not, my valiant warriors. I am in constant touch with our commanders in the field and victory shall soon be ours. Now I must end this dispatch and join my troops, for an army without a leader is like a day without a cameo!

I always love the enthusiasm Stan brings to any announcement and happy to here he is on the mend. Get well soon Generalissimo!

We also learned through Variety that Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield are both set to return for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which hits theaters May 2nd 2014.

20th Century Fox Announces Mark Millar as Their Marvel Movie Consultant.

Well it’s nice to see Fox stepping up and starting to show a little more care with their Marvel Comics Properties. This week it was announced that comic writer Mark Millar will be Fox’s creative consultant on their Marvel properties. On his Millarworld message board the writer responded.

It’s way too early to talk about plans just yet, but as you can imagine the idea here is to make exactly the kind of superhero movies you and I want to see most. There literally isn’t a more talented bunch of film-makers to be working with and the team at Fox are incredibly excited about this bold new direction too. I also want to post this here to say thanks for the hundreds of emails I woke up to this morning and the thousand-plus tweets I got overnight from well-wishers. I wish I had time to reply to them all today – I usually reply to most of my tweets @mrmarkmillar – but this morning was an AVALANCHE and so I just wanted to so a big thanks, that I’ve read every one and that they’re hugely appreciated. A highlight, I think, was well-wishes from Stan The Man himself. That’s like the Pope sending a message. Couldn’t have been more exciting.

Millar is a very logical choice, he has worked well with X-Men First Class director Matthew Vaughn and has written all the characters Fox owns. I am interested to see if Millar will try to build a cohesive Fox Marvel Universe or keep the properties independent. 20th Century Fox owns the rights to X-Men, Wolverine, and the Fantastic Four.

First Official Photo of Hugh Jackman from The Wolverine.

Speaking of 20th Century Fox Marvel properties…This past Monday morning we were treated to our first official look at Hugh Jackman as Logan in the upcoming adventure film featuring our favorite clawed mutant, The Wolverine. The James Mangold film hits theaters July 26, 2013. Now if you will excuse me I will be heading to the gym.

Nic Klein Joins Jason Latour on The Winter Soldier starting in February.

Earlier this week we learned that Dancer artist Nic Klein will be joining new appointed writer Jason Latour on Winter Soldier.  While talking with CBR Klein described what aspects he we wants to bring out of the character through his art.

To be honest, I’m still getting acquainted with the character. In this arc, we pick up with Bucky after a lot of things have happened. He’s not really in hiding; he’s kind of down and out and trying to figure out who he is. So he’s not really a shiny super hero — he’s more of a down in the dirt kind of guy, and that’s what my take on the character feels like.

He’s a fun character to draw, too. This is the first time I’ve actually drawn a bionic arc in comics, which is kind of cool because I grew up on the ’90s [MArc] Silvestri “Cyberforce” stuff, and that was just full of bionic arms.

Well there you have it guys. I hope you all have a great weekend and I will see you all here this time next week for the next installment of The Impact.
