The Impact:November 28th -December 2th 2011

Published on December 2nd, 2011

Hey Guys, Matt here. So sorry I was away last week. Between the holiday and being unexpectedly called out of town my schedule was really thrown out of whack.. But now I am back so let us talk about all the news making it’s way around the comic blogosphere.

act1CGC Graded 9.0 Copy of Action Comics #1 Sells for $2.16 Million!!!

Courtesy of Comics Alliance. Earlier this week Nicholas Cage’s previously stolen and then recovered copy of Action Comics #1 sold at auction for a whopping record setting $2.16 million dollars.  The issue, which had been CGC graded 9.0 was sold by the auction house Comic Connect.

Watchmen 2…Might Actually Happen. But Should it???

Take this with a grain of salt but according to Bleeding Cool and now Robot 6. Speculation continues to grow that DC is planning a prequel to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons Masterpiece Watchmen. Rich Johnston goes even so far to say that Andy Kubert will be drawing one of the miniseries. Other creators who may…or may not be involved include Darwyn Cooke, J. Michael Straczynski, J.G. Jones, John Higgins even Dave Gibbons himself. Hmmm Do I want this to happen??? No. Will I read it if it does happen? Yes. What do you guys think?

This December Dark Horse Goes Day and Date Digital

Courtesy of Comics Alliance. In a move that was truly only a matter of time, earlier this week Dark Horse Comics announced that starting December 14th that nearly all of it’s titles, including trades and original graphic novels will be available day and date digital. Cost of a single issue comics will range from 99 cents to $1.99 and digital graphic novels and collection will be priced from $2.99 to $7.99. What I find most intriguing about this is Dark Horse’s pricing model since it is much lower than DC or Marvel’s. It will be very interesting to see if it will eventually end up effecting them in the long run.

What Books are in Store For Free Comic Book Day 2012.

Today the Free Comic Book Day committee announced what books will be available from it’s Gold Level sponsors during this year’s Free Comic Book Day. All the major publishers seem to be bringing their best. DC is of course pushing what’s next for the New 52, Marvel is highlighting The Avengers (just in time for the movie release).There is another strong push for all ages material  with Boom! Studios, Archaia, and Archie all releasing books focused on a younger crowd, rightfully so. And  Archaia is actually making their sampler book a hardcover…how cool is that?  I love Free Comic Day, it’s a great day of watching everyone get introduced to new comics. Most stores hold events with sales and signings,  it’s just a blast for new and old fans alike. You can check out all the latest about Free Comic Book Day here at Comic Impact and at the FCBD official website. Free Comic Book Day is May 5th 2012.

First Look at The Amazing Spider-Man’s version of the Lizard…and not it is not a Pez Dispenser.

Courtesy of Here is the first look at a what is possible a piece of concept art of the Lizard. Now while this has not been confirmed as official I was in the panel for The Amazing Spider-Man at San Diego and this is very close if not exactly to what he looked like in the footage. The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3rd 2012.

First Look at the Teaser poster for Men In Black III.

The Dark Knight Rises. New Pics and Where Can you see the Six Minute Prologue in IMAX.

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine we got our first look at the first official pictures from Chris Nolan’s concluding chapter to his Batman trilogy. Yes these pictures came out last week but they are really cool and honestly who doesn’t want to talk about The Dark Knight Rises?

In the article Empire talks to director Chris Nolan who reveals a startling bit of information regarding where the movie picks up;

“It’s really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne’s story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after The Dark Knight. So he’s an older Bruce Wayne; he’s not in a great state.”

This is very intriguing I love the idea of an older Batman. It really sounds like Nolan is cherry picking his favorite elements from The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Knightfall. Which to this day are some of my favorite Batman stories. When talking about why Bane is not in his traditional luchador mask costume designer Lindy Hemming explained;

He was injured early in his story. Hes suffering from pain and he needs gas to survive. He cannot survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at the back where there are two cannisters of what ever it is…the anesthetic.

The more I hear about this movie the happier I get. In past installments of The Impact I have talked about how the six-minute prologue will only be available in select 70mm IMAX theaters. well this week Warner Bros. was kind enough to release a list of the exact theaters showing the prologue.  Check it out below.It was also confirmed we should get a second trailer with Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters  July 20th 2012.

Well there you have it folks that is all the news that is fit to print. Thank you for checking out this week’s installment of The Impact. I missed you guys and it’s great to be back.
