Hey ComicImpact fans and fans of comics! Are you ready for a new episode of “Did You Catch All That?”? This time around is a special home for the holidays episode, as Sheldon, Susan and myself (Simon) tell you our favorite books of 2011.
Sheldon is still the Marvel fan boy as he talks about his love for Ed Brubaker with not one, but two books. He is more than excited about reading the Ultimate line one more time. Sheldon is now also a fan of the great Scott Snyder.
Susan is still the DC fan girl at heart. Not only...

Howdy ho ho ho! The holiday season is about end, and we at Comic Impact take this time to reminisce about what occurred over the past year in comics. Susan, Simon, Sheldon, and Rob (I know, right? Rob!) go through the best, worst, mildly disappointing, and overly exciting comics of the past twelve months.
We actually have quite the variety of books on this list, so take a listen to what we all have to say. It’s rather important. Susan promises to stop stalking a certain comic writer, while Sheldon talks in a British accent...

Join Sheldon, Susan, and Simon as the plow through the Christmas week books! This is P.O.W. for December 21 2011… or if you are counting Episode number 241! What was the pick? It was none other than Daredevil #7 by Mark Waid and Paulo Rivera. It gave just the right amount of Christmas cheer to my holiday and gave a little of a “What??!” moment at the end! But fear not, if that wasn’t your pick, maybe one of these other books we talked about will tickle your fancy! What are they?
Well, let me give you...

Hey Internet how’s it going? Are you fine folks enjoying the Holiday Season? We here at Comic Impact are! We have had so many things to be thankful for this season but mostly it is that we are thankful for you! You are the ones that push us every week to record a new Pick of The Week and a New This Week! You are the ones that remind us to do Did You Catch All That? at the end of every month. It is because of YOU that we dig deep into the bowels of comicdom and write new features like Susan’s Horror on the 13th or...

North America is going to find out the magic of The Adventures of Tintin this week, thanks to Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson! As young boy growing up in France, I was huge fan of Les Aventures de Tintin. They were some of the first comics I read as a kid. They still hold a special place in my heart. I wanted to take some time and share with you my top 5 covers. There were over 20 comics published about this young detective, created, written, and illustrated by Hergé back in 1930. That’s right,9 years before Batman,...

Christmas is here in a few days! Are you ready to enjoy the time with your family and love ones? Well, we’ve got the next best thing for you! Join Simon and Susan… Oh wait, where is Sheldon? That is the question the crew is asking in episode 240 -Where is Sheldon? Oh well, Simon and Susan just talk about a few books from the past week. Simon is more then impressed with Uncanny X-Force #18 by Rick (I will break your heart) Remender, ,Jerome (I am a god) Opeña and Dean V. (Colors where not invented before I use...

Okay Guys to quote the Joker, “Heeeere weee go.” This morning Apple officially posted the trailer to The Dark Knight Rises HERE. I was fortunate enough to see it this past weekend with my screening of Mission Imposible: Ghost Protocol. It was great, I’ve never seen that many people applaud a trailer…. outside of Comic Con’s Hall H. Like the Prologue (You can read my thoughts on the IMAX Prologue HERE) Nolan is playing his cards very close to his chest. This teaser reveals very little story...

Joe Simon and Eduardo Baretto R.I.P.

Hello Comic Impact! Have I mentioned that I love your smile? I do. Anyway, we’re back for another episode of the “Pick of the Week” podcast. Sheldon still does not know which episode we are on. Simon loves himself some Planet of the Apes. And me? Well, I (Susan) had the pick. While the boys did not agree, I went with Huntress #3. I convinced them by telling them which women of the DC Universe I would date. Seemed to work just fine! Simon and I agree that Sheldon hates fun after refusing to fall in love with...

And, we’re back! It’s written form again for Horror on the 13th! I can’t decide what I like better. Really, I just like mixing it up, because to me, talking about horror is talking about horror. In fact, I agree with that statement almost to a fault. I mean, I really do like and appreciate all horror, even the bad stuff. Horror taps into something very primal in all of us. It’s the fear of the unknown or the mysterious or the abnormal. Mostly, it’s trying to understand things that we, as humans, don’t understand or...

You want to know one of the best comics you should be reading? Reed Gunther #6, by Chris Houghton and Shane Houghton, from Image comics. I know what you’re saying: “But it’s issue six, and I haven’t read the previous five issues!” That’s fine, because this is a one-shot that explains how Reed (The Cowboy) met up with Sterling (The Bear).
Without giving too much detail about this issue, we find out that Reed had a hard time following in his father’s footsteps as a young child. Yet Chris Houghton...

Maybe it’s the optimism and joy the holiday period brings me, or maybe it’s because I’ve been driven insane by the infinite number of terrible Christmas songs my girlfriend has been playing on repeat throughout the house, but I’ve not been able to detect many bad comics on my radar recently. I probably have gone off the walls, but it does seem like there are a lot of truly great comics on-going right now.
Today when I went to pick up my stack, the shelves were illuminated and alive. It was a delight to...

We love Jonathan Hickman and Image Comics here at Comic Impact so we are more then excited about this new project called THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS. Image was kind enough to send us some early artwork and press release.
Berkeley, CA – 8 December 2011 – What if the union of a generation’s brightest minds like Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer was not a signal for optimism, but foreboding? What if everything… went wrong?
In the year 1945, the atomic bomb proved its capacity for immense devastation, but what if the...

If you have not read part one, make sure to check out my review of Chew #21. Ok good, now you know what’s going on in the previous issue, right? Because I don’t want you to tell me I spoiled this book for you.
First of all, when you’re talking about Chew, you have to give it up to Rob Guillory: that man is amazing. Sure, I know John Layman is the mastermind...

We live in a society where mass consumerism has reached a terminal world-wide breaking point. We pretend to be aware of the negative effects of over consumption, both to our personal well being and to the planet we call home, but we continue on, completely unabated in our gluttonous self-indulgence. If art is a reflection of the times we live in, I can think of no better contemporary artist to put up the mirror to our less than responsible ways than Ron English.
A leading figure of the Pop Surrealism art movement, English’s...

It is that time of the month, when you pay your rent and your phone bill, but it is also the time to look back at some of the best covers from that past month. My favorite was Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive #525. by Francesco Francavilla.
AVENGERS ORIGINS: ANT-MAN AND WASP #1 - Cover by Marko Djurdjevic
The scientist’s name is Hank Pym. The socialite’s is Janet Van Dyne. Both are haunted by personal tragedy and the burning need to…avenge! It’s insect love, Marvel-style, as we revisit the unlikely origin...
