2012 will be bringing us a number of exciting comic book movies, one of them is the new Superman reboot, Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder.Variety reported today that in the forthcoming Superman film, the role of Jor-El, Superman’s birth father, will be played by Academy Award winner Russell Crowe. Crowe will be joined by Henry Cavill in the titular role, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha “Ma” Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan “Pa” Kent and Michael Shannon as General Zod.

The role of Jor-El was last portrayed on the big screen by Hollywood legend, Marlon Brando in Superman and Superman II.  His likeness was used in the last Superman film, Superman Returns thanks to computer technology and unused footage from Superman and Superman II.

Man of Steel will be in theaters Christmas, 2012.
