Published on February 18th, 2011

For those who don’t know, this week was Toy Fair which  is one of the world’s largest trade shows for toys. This year, Toy Fair was in New York City at the Jacob Javits Center. A lot of your favorite toy manufacturers were showing off some of their new toys for the upcoming year.

Sometime years you’re still waiting for those toys to come out. This is going to be a busy year in the world of toys. Just to name a few projects, we have Thor, which lands in theaters this May, X-Men: First Class and GreenLantern in June and then Captain America: The First Avenger storms theaters nationwide in July. This is not counting The Walking Dead coming back for an all new season. Also, there a lot of major storylines in the world of comics and therefore they would need action figure? Here is some of the news and hot toys that will make an impact on your collection this year.

First off, we‘ve got The Walking Dead action figures from McFarlane based on the hit comic and TV show on AMC. As we told you like week. The Walking Dead.”

richwalkingdeadfigureThis is the first time action figures have been produced and both lines are available to retailers this fall. The first series of deluxe 6-inch figures is releasing in September 2011, including four fan-favorite characters from the Image comic book :

  • · Officer Rick Grimes
  • · Michonne
  • · Zombie Lurker
  • · Zombie Roamer

The second series of deluxe 6-inch figures will berevealed in November 2011 and introduces four figures based on AMC’s original drama including:

  • · Zombie Biter

Next up, from the people over at DC Direct we get a lot of cool Green Lantern merchandise.  This is the year  all Green Lantern fans have been waiting for, as Ryan Reynolds becomes the emerald crusader on June 17 . As we told you last week, there will be a Hal Jordan maquette sculpted by Dave Cortes and five-movie busts (Sinestro, Tomar Re, Kilowog, Hal Jordan and the Guardians). The fun does not end there, as there will be both Hal Jordan and Sinestro deluxe busts. Also, DC Direct are not done with their Blackest Night figures.Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on a Red Lantern Guy Gardner.

There will also be Brightest Day figures coming out, as we told you last July; the first wave starting in March. DC Direct will kick off another series of high-quality and story-specific products, this time based around the hit bi-weekly series,Brightest Day We’ve gotten a  look at the first two waves, which include Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Deadman, Aquaman, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm and Mera.

For all you DC Universe Online fans, look for  Joker and Harley Quinn statues based on the hit video game. For all you fans of the DC Cover Girls statues, like myself, looks look for an all new Starfire statue to hit your local comic book shop. I still want Big Barda. Also, FlashPoint and Batman Inc. figures are due to hit stores later this year.

If you ever read one of our Figure Fridays here at, you know that DC works a lot with Mattel on their DC Universe figures. Those are some of the best 6-inch figures around. Guess what we got a look at? The new wave  will  hit stores soon and it looks like we’re going to get a Captain Boomerang. I can’t help myself thinking it looks a lot like Seth Green. The only thing I don’t like about this figure is that they are going to be a Wal-Mart exclusive

Mattel we also have a line of figure call ” Classics Green Lantern” they look a lot more like the DC Universe figure. Since they will also have the movie figure This looks to be the same size as the Marvel Universe figure 3 3/4 from Hasbro. So, if you’re a DC fan it looks like it is going to be a busy year for you.

Kotobukiya had a sneak peek of their Thor statue. The prototype looks amazing and would make any Thor fan have a wet dream. There is also an X-Force Archangel due sometime in the 4th quarter of this year. Also, look for a Gambit Marvel statue due sometime later this year.

The first film to come out for Marvel Studio this year will be Thor, which tells the story of Thor, the Asgardian god of thunder, who is cast out from the mythical world and sent to live among humans on Earth.  Over time, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero and the powerful yet arrogant warrior uses his mighty hammer to become one of the planet’s finest defenders. Now, just like any film in the past 30 years, you’re going to need some merchandise and thanks to the people over at Hasbro we are going to get some great stuff.

Thor will have both 3.75action figure and a few deluxe figures which includes heroes and villains such as Thor, Odin, Loki, Frost Giant and The Destroyer. These super-articulated figures are highly stylized in designs depicting the characters from Thor. I love how the Destroyer figure looks. Some of the figure in this line will be:

  • Fandral
  • Hogun
  • Light Up Battle Thor
  • Loki
  • Modern Thor

Also, Thor will have some great role-playing toys for kids and fans such as play as Thor’s hammer (Mjǫlnir), the Asgardian commander of thunder, an item that’s perfect for smaller hands. The hammer’s head is crafted from soft, durable foam.
