Figure Friday: Marvel Universe Archangel

Published on October 15th, 2010

One of my favorite X-men  characters is Archangel. Since I was a kid I was in love with the design of his costume. When I found that Hasbro was going to make him part of the Marvel Universe and I  could not wait to get my hands on one of these  figures. So I am not to sock that he was part of the “2010 Fan’s Choice Winner. But is it a great figure?  I guess we found out on this weeks Figure Friday.

Package Description:His body and mind twisted by mutant super science, Warren Worthington became a henchman of the evil Apocalypse. He soared aloft as a monster, obeying his master’s every command. Worthington’s mind was strong, however, and he broke free of the ancient mutant’s brainwashing. Using his steel wings, enhanced strength, and damage resistance, he currently adventures with the mutant black-ops team X-Force.

Appearance::When you first look at Archangel your eyes first go  to his wings after  all they do have a span of six and a half inches. That’s bigger that one of this Marvel Universe figures. Archangels steel-like wings are really what makes this figure special and allow it to stand out from all the other Marvel Universe releases to date. The wings attach to the back of the figure similarly to the way Hasbro attaches backpacks to its figures, holes.

Hasbro did a good job on the paint it looks like  Archangel. I was never a big fan of the colors of his costume however but the team over at Hasbro did a nice job on the pattern  and I am sure those lines where a bitch to work on. but the small detail turned out AMAZING!  I can’t wait to see him next to my  apocalypse figure that will be coming soon. Maybe they will make all of apocalypse’s horsemen.

Poseability:My biggest problem with the wings is that they were so busy thinking about moving them in and out, that he is not able to move them up and down and also they fall off a lot but thanks to some super glue. I have fixed that issue .

I have a BIG  problem with this figure as a whole because of the choice of sculpt. Since I can tell this is the same  body as Black Suit Spider-Man, Iron Spider-Man, Human Torch, Silver Surfer and Iron Fist. Here is the main problem, the wings are to heavy so he falls down. If they would’ve used a bit bigger sculpt such as Hawkeye or Daredevil this would’ve fixed this issue.

Archangel would have been a much better figure if it would have featured a swivel neck and better torso movement allowing him to be posed in dynamic flight stances and looking upward.

The articulation featured is the same as Iron Fist or any of the other figures with the same sculpt. Archangel has NO balance so it is hard to have some cool dynamic poses, which sucks if you ask me. There is a lot of room for improvement.

Final Judgment:5/10

I love the way he looks but lack of articulation kills this figure for me. He is still one of my favorites I have just due to the fact that I love this character.I know this figure is SUPER hard to get and I had to pay around $35.00 on ebay for mine. Is it worth more then $7.99 ? No it is not for me but if you want to pay the eBay prices more power to you. Also there is a variant Death Mask. That is easier to find then this figure as well as an Uncanny X-Force paint scheme version that was for NYCC  2010 only…kind of a bummer there as I would love one 🙁
