Anyone who listens to the POW, Pick Of the Week, podcast will know that allbatman-beyondsmall of us here at Comic Impact are big fans of the current Batman Beyond mini-series over at DC right now.

On Wednesday at New York Comic Con DC announced that the series will be picked up as a regular, ongoing series in January.  It’s also going to feature the same creative team, with writer Adam Beechen and art by Ryan Benjamin.

Batman Beyond is based on the cartoon from the late 1990’s/early 2000’s that takes place 50 years in the future.  Bruce Wayne is very old and he recruits a young man named Terry McGinnis to be the new Batman, complete with a high tech bat-suit, flying batmobile and all sorts of cool future gadgets.

The show was canceled about nine years ago and Beechen’s mini-series not only picked up where the show left of incorporated more recent Batman history into the Batman Beyond mythos by bringing in Hush, a Batman villain that was created after the cancellation of the cartoon as well as showing us what Dick Grayson, Nightwing, has been up to in the Batman Beyond world which had never been addressed in the cartoon.

The Batman Beyond ongoing series will start with a new issue 1 in January after the completion of the mini-series in issue 6.
