Review: Flash #3

Published on July 4th, 2010

If it’s one thing I have learned in my 25 years of collecting comics it is NEVER ,EVER trust a cover and The FLASH issue#3 is no exception. I would like to add that apparently you can NEVER, EVER trust the Comixology description as well…but I digress.

I would like to take you now on a journey… a  journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s a signpost up ahead: your next stop: The Flash Issue 3. This issue is written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Francis Manapul. This  issue takes us into the 3rd Chapter of The Dastardly Death of the Rouges and opens with a mug shot of George Harkness A.K.A. Captain Boomerang. We then jump to him laying in a bed  with armed police officers all around him.He whispers something and one of the officers asks what he said , heflash3 then bites the guys nose and yells “You got something on your nose!”. This was a good start to an issue which had a preview of and I quote from Comixology “It may be BRIGHTEST DAY, but when a mysterious group of so-called heroes turns up, another Rogue ends up dead. Plus, the mystery deepends as The Flash witness another murder – his own!” sounds pretty good right?! Wrong!Wrong,Wrong,Wrong. The Flash NEVER witnesses his own death in this issue. So apparently they just looked at the cover and assumed what the story might be!!Grrrrrrr. Ok so aside from that little misstep here is what the comic actually had to offer!

This issue is just kind of ok…where it really takes off is Boomerang..and I gotta say I never would have thought I would say that. D.C. is actually doing something with a character that was effected by Darkest Night which in turn has given his powers a boost.Apparently now he can manifest a black boomerang. The art is this issue by Manapul is still AMAZING but the actual story line just feels like I am getting the run around from The Flash. So far in this first arch we haven’t really learned anything other then the Renegade Rouges from the future are after The Flash.Sure we get some great dialogue from Barry and Iris but other then that meeeh. It is on issue 3 and well I think we should be a little more along then that, with Boomerang now in the mix it could get interesting but you have to wonder if it will be a situation of to little to late?

Final Verdict:Skip it wait til they get around issue 8 or 9 maybe then Geoff Johns will start to produce something worth reading!Harsh I know but The Flash is an A list D.C. character and it is about time he get that treatment!
