Cosplay Girl of the Month March 2010

One of the features we do here at Comic Impact is the Cosplay Girl of the Month (NO anime, manga, or role-playing games just comics). That’s right, hot girls dressing up as your favorite super-hero characters. This month we’re privileged to be showing you Pistnuto.

What is your name? Pistnuto, of course  ;)

How old are you?30

Do you read comics and if so, what are your favorite titles?
Yes I do pick up some comics here and there.  I first got into reading comics during the Civil War series.  I enjoyed following the series through the Avengers, Spider-man, and Captain America.  Still enjoy these as well as now reading Thor, Siege, Ms. Marvel (even though they ruined her and stopped the on-going), and the occasional Spider-Woman.  Basically I’m a Marvel girl, sorry DC (though DC has some great women to cosplay).

What is your favorite comic book character? Storm!  Would anybody object to me trying to cosplay her?

Who are your Favorite artists or writers? I love everything Bendis has been doing over at Marvel for the past few years.  Straczynski’s run on Spider-man during the Civil War and his bringing back Thor were great reads.  Artisits . . . Sana Takeda did some really nice work on Ms. Marvel.

comicimpact-cosplay-march-10_2What got you into cosplay? Cosplay is a hobby that incorporates several of my interests.  Working out and exercising have always been a priorty in my life (these costumes become my personal trainer!)  I’ve always had a passion for sewing and design, and then there is shopping!!!  I get to do a lot of it!    And what girl doesn’t love shopping and playing dress-up? :)  It was a mixture of all these things that lead me to start wearing costumes even when it wasn’t Halloween.

If you do more than one character which one is your favorite, and if you do only one do you have some ideas for more costumes?

My favorite costume I’ve done so far is Ms. Marvel.  I also loved the location of that shoot.  I plan on reusing the Ms. Marvel costume at NY Comic Con this year . . but don’t worry, it will be better.  Yes, I have several ideas for new characters coming soon.  Keep an eye out for Black Canary, Black Cat, and Firestar to name a few.

How long does it take to make a costume?
On average I would say 1-2 months.  First I have to research, put orders in, find the right materials, accessories, and then finally get to sit down and create.  It can take awhile to get everything just right and a lot of trial and error.  All part of the fun!

Have you met any of the artists or writers where your costume is based on their work? No, but I would love to!

Do you buy any toys, busts, and etc. based on some of your favorite costumes?
If you only knew.  I wish you could see the room I’m sitting in right now.  Did I mention I like shopping?  Yeah I have a few ;)

comicimpact-cosplay-march-10_4So do people know you dress up like a comic book hero on your free time? Absolutely.  All my close friends know, think it’s great and are very supportive.  A few have even joined me to comic con and plan on doing so again in their own cosplay.  Look for the Avengers at this years NY Comic Con!

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you at a convention? I would have to say having a Chewbacca cosplayer who I didn’t know come over and pick me up bear hug style and hold me for a few seconds while a bunch of people took pictures.  I was cracking up and could not hold a straight face.

Do kids come up to you and think you are the real life character? No.  At least I haven’t had this happen to me.  I have had a few kids come up and ask me for a picture while mom or dad would take it but they are usually very shy and I just try to cheer them up and relax them a bit.

What do you like to do when you’re not costuming, such as other hobbies? Whenever I can I love to hike, travel and explore new places, museums and the outdoors.  I am also a bit of a book worm and obviously I love cosplay and everything that it entails.

Do you have a website or a Myspace?  So people can contact you? You can contact me at either of the following:

Wow, well deserved Pistnuto. I love that you mostly cosplay comic book characters rather than all the anime stuff. You are bringing the Superheroes to life like no other. Keep it up!

Thank you all. This has been a great experiance. I’m working on so many cosplay outfits right now and am looking forward to more feedback. I’m currently in the process of cutting out my patern for my Vampirella costume! Jill H hit me up and we should work something out soon. Steven, I love A GUY who is into comics. That’s my 6′-7″ blond haired blue eyed husband. So no, I’m not single. But there are plenty of single cosplayers out there. ;)

Hey, Pisnuto! Great choice to have you as Girl of the Month. I remember meeting you as Phoenix in NY while I was Firestar. Since I had been called Phoenix a bit that day I figured I needed that picture to show people the difference. Love your work! I didn’t realize you had Red Sonja in your repertoire. If you do want to meet the creators of the comic, I can probably help you out with that one.
