“The Art of Avatar” Group Book Signing In L.A. 1/23/2010

By now I would imagine that everyone reading this is familiar with the visual mind-melt that is James Cameron’s Avatar. Now you can meet several of the hugely talented folks who helped realize Cameron’s vision and brought it to life at The Art of Avatar group book signing at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA this Saturday evening, January 23rd. Eight (!) of the contributing artists will be on hand for a Q & A session starting at 6:00 p.m. followed by a signing of The Art of Avatar book.

The Art of Avatar

Needless to say this volume is jam packed with incredible artwork by some of the best conceptual artists in the field. It will be available in the gallery’s store and if you blog, tweet or facebook the Avatar signing event and bring in printed proof you can get 15% off the book and everything else in the store.

In addition to all of the above Saturday also sees the opening (at 8:00 p.m.) of Avatar contributor Jordu Schell’s solo exhibit Phantasms in the Nucleus upstairs gallery. Here’s more about Schell from the Gallery Nucleus press release:

“Renowned designer and sculptor Jordu Schell will be exhibiting new, original sculptures and paintings in our Atrium gallery. Having worked in the film and television industry for over 23 years, his long list of credits include:

  • Avatar
  • The Mist
  • Narnia
  • Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem
  • 300
  • Dawn of the Dead
  • Hulk
  • Scary Movie 3
  • Alien Resurrection
  • Planet of the Apes

Jordu Schell is also the owner and head designer of Schell Sculpture Studio. The studio specializes in creature and character design, props, prototypes for toys and model kits, general special effects work, and creature design classes and has been providing concept art in the film and television industry for over ten years.”

Also, Schell sculpted the awesome Green Lantern 1:2 scale bust that is offered in the most recent (Jan.) issue of Previews.

If you live in the L.A. area do not miss this chance as I can’t imagine what would bring all these people together for a single event again. Plus, if you haven’t been to Gallery Nucleus before you owe it to yourself to check out one of the coolest (the coolest?) galleries in all of Los Angeles. If you go make sure to say hi to Nucleus owner (and all around nice guy) Ben. Tell em’ John Mueller and Comic Impact sent you.
