I know I reviewed a Deadpool book last week, but with all the Deadpool books there are I can review as many as I want. This week I want to review Deadpool Team-Up #886. As I said when Deadpool teamed up with The Machine Man this is a hit or miss book, and I definitely thought that this issue was a hit. This month Deadpool teams up with Iron Fist to take down Gin Goh, some immortal Kung Fu guy.
The book starts with Deadpool cornered on the cliff of a mountain by an army of ninjas. He’s out of ammo, but when they call him...

Mark Millar is at the top of his game this week. Two amazing books from the guy in one week! I thought only Robert Kirkman was capable of such a thing. It took a little bit longer to get to four issues of Nemesis than someone would expect, but I think with this last issue was worth the wait. Honestly I wasn’t as impressed with this book initially as I have been with Millar’s other books, but I think after looking at this first series as a whole, and especially this last issue I’m more than happy with it.
So...

Hey there Comic Impact followers! How are you this week? It was Christmas last week, New Year’s at the end of this week. It’s a lot going on, except in the world of Comics on Film. Not a lot happening, but fear not Ian and Ken are here to tell you about the latest news involving Emma Stone and her status on the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, the latest rumors concerning X-Men: First Class, and who will play Superior in the movie! If that wasn’t enough there’s also Doritos, a dancing cat, and our pal Ian makes...

For any of you guys out there who aren’t aware, Marvel has this whole series of books referred to as “Marvel Noir.” Most of these books (if not all) take place in the 1930’s and feature some of our favorite Marvel superheroes if they were around in that time. I was avoiding most of these books for a while. I didn’t care for X-Men Noir, and haven’t read Wolverine Noir or the first Spider-Man Noir. I did read Punisher Noir and Iron Man Noir and I enjoyed both of those. I do like how Spider-Man...

With HBO’s True Blood and the Twilight movie/book series vampires are more popular than ever! They’re also horribly played out and lame in general. So who better to jump on the vampire bandwagon than Deadpool? The X-Men maybe? That’s right X-Men has yet another ongoing series and that book’s debut storyline, Curse of the Mutants, involves the X-Men having their own private war with vampires after Dracula’s son killed Dracula and gone on to unite all the vampire sects to create the ultimate vampire...

And to top it off, there’s all kinds of crazy, wackiness involved! I know you’re interested now, so I’m going to start telling you about Chew #16!
Chew is written by John Layman with art by Rob Guillory. In this world gone mad, all poultry has been outlawed due to a worldwide outbreak of avian flu that...

Welcome to Part 2 of Sequential Sunday’s look at the highly varied and completely mind-blowing work of 3-D processing master Ray Zone! In part 1 we saw numerous examples of depth-defying art from early issues of Zone’s self-published title The 3-D Zone. Though this series constitutes a sizable chunk of his 1980’s output, Zone applied his skills to the comics of numerous other publishers from the decade of the independent publishing boom as well, including Eclipse Comics.

Along with just about every other comic movie franchise imaginable, Superman is going to be returning to theaters in 2012. This is going to be a completely new direction for the Man Of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder.
Superman is a franchise that needs no introduction. He is the original superhero. Since 1938, every single costumed superhero that has come into being owes their existence to him. Many people consider the 1978 Superman: The Movie to be the single best comic book movie of all time.
For years though, we haven’t...

The only reason I decided to pick up The Green Hornet when the series started was because it was written by Kevin Smith, he scripted the first ten issues and Jonathan Hester did the breakdowns and they were pretty good. I was pretty happy with the series and glad that I read it. With issue eleven Mr. Smith has left the series and Phil Hester has taken complete control. I almost didn’t pick up this new issue, but for whatever reason I did, and I gotta say I’m actually glad I did.

There has been a lot of complaints made here at Comic Impact lately about the X-Men titles. Be it art, story or both, we’ve had grievances with almost every X-book. But, the one title that fails to disappoint is Uncanny X-Force.

Well after fifteen issues after deciding to end the first volume of Ultimate Spider-Man Marvel decided to forget about it and make this new issue number 150! At the end of Batman & Robin # 16 we saw Bruce Wayne publicly reveal that he’s the financier behind Batman’s war on crime. Now with Batman Inc finally out, we get a first look at Wayne’s mission to recruit an international association of Batman and Grant Morrison’s Batman International Man of Mystery… oh wait that’s Austin Powers.
The book opens up with a man (Mr. Unknown) getting his hands burnt off. We found out that he was Batman’s counterpart in Japan too. We also get to meet...

Seth Green: actor, comedian, co-creator of Robot Chicken and also a comic book called Freshmen. If you missed out on this comic five years ago, there’s no need to fret because you can still pick this up as a Trade Paperback. And since it is a Trade Paperback and I just read it for the first time (thanks to fellow Comic Impact contributor, Ian (Candydish) Candish I thought I would use it as the feature book for this week’s Trade Tuesday!
Freshmen oddly enough is about a group of freshmen who are forced to spend their...

Normally it goes about three or four months between Mark Millar’s books, so I was more than surprised to see Superior #2 out on the shelf this week. Don’t get me wrong I was quite happy to see the book after only a month or so, it was just very surprising.
If you didn’t read the first issue, or read Simon’s review on the first issue, or listen to the POW Podcast where we couldn’t stop laughing for twenty minutes (shame on you) Superior is about a young boy named Simon with multiple sclerosis who...

When writing about a site of recent historical significance, recent enough that those who were present as witnesses or participants to important events held there are likely still alive, you are not going to be able to please everyone. The beyond legendary New York music club CBGB is one such locale whose cultural impact on the musical spectrum of the last 35 years is so great it could never be given due justice in print or on film no matter how good the effort may be.
This brings us to the newly collected four-issue CBGB comic...

Throw a stone and you’re likely to hit a Batman title these days. There’s been a great deal of upheaval over the past couple years from “Batman R.I.P.”, to “Battle For The Cowl,” to Dick Grayson becoming Batman. Now, Bruce is finally back and he’s started “Batman Incorporated” which is promising to be an interesting, new direction for Batman. But, in all of this craziness, what’s going on with good ol’ Dick?
Batman #704 continues with Dick wearing the Bat-suit...

What’s that you say? You want more of the DC Dynamics statues? What, Green Lantern and Batman weren’t enough for you? Well, fine! Here comes another!
This week we’re taking a good, hard look at DC Dynamics’ Superman statue. Designed and sculpted by Tim Bruckner, this statue is 11.75 high x 6 wide x 5 deep. Like all DC Dynamics, it is hand painted, cold cast porcelain. Each statue features the character’s bust with their lower half being obscured by a semi-transparent, plastic type material...

Here it is Kids, the last Long Beach Comic Con Interview. Join us as we talk with Howard Chaykin. Find out about his new Magneto story line for Marvel comics that is due to hit stores in January. We also take a look back at his work on the original Star Wars comics, on Die Hard year one and talk about how great Steve Ditko was on the early issues of Amazing Spider-Man. Ok I know I am one of only 5 people in the United States that will care about this but when I was a young comic fan living in France I was a big fan of 200 AD’s Judge Dredd comic. Dredd is still one of my top comic characters of all time .The Brian Bolland stuff is still some of my favorite artwork in comics. Well hold on tight because we now get our first look at Karl Urban as Judge Dredd . Sure this is only a photo of Karl Urban from the rehearsals but WOW!!! right?.

Hellboy is one of my favorite comic books of all time so whenever there is a new book starring this demonic character I get really excited and it’s always one of the first books I read. This month Dark Horse released Hellboy: Double Feature of Evil and like every other Hellboy book this one did not fail to entertain me. From the title you can figure that this comic contains two Hellboy stories both written by Mike Mignola and drawn by Richard Corben.
The book starts with an old and abandoned movie theater with a very small...

That’s right everyone, we’ve still got LBCC content for you! LBCC was a smaller convention (at least compared to SDCC) and was almost entirely artist alley and we got some pretty incredible convention sketches from them.
One of the best souvenirs one can take from any comic convention is convention sketches. At artist alley the creators from some of your favorite comics will do sketches or commissions for you. Some charge for their sketches, others will offer them for free. Some artist will do smaller, quick...

This Invaders series is now in full effect. We have the original line up of Cap,Human Torch,Toro, Bucky,Namor,Spitfire,Union Jack and The Original Vision. Now while you would think that this would automatically make this an epic comic well you just might be wrong or not read on to find out if writer Christos Gage and artist Caio Reiss knock it out of the park or fall short of the finish line.
The Invaders have always been about protecting the weak. During World War 2 when they were around they both fought the bad guys and...

Do you ever think to yourself, “I wish Jack Kirby was still alive and making those amazing comic books.” I wake up every morning with that thought, followed by, “I want a burrito.” That second thought really has nothing to do with anything. Sadly Jack Kirby never seems to come back to life to make mine better, but we got the next best thing, Godland. Last week saw Image Comics publish the first issue in a brand new series from the minds of Marc Guggenheim, Tara Butters and artist Ryan Bodenheim. From it’s well designed, pristine front cover to it’s Frank Quietly-esque interiors, I’d say that Halycon #1 certainly looks the business. But for another superhero comic, does it offer anything more than the everyday good guy/bad guy story we see in most of our mainstream comics?
Yes, for the most part. Halcyon is a superhero comic (superteam comic, to be more precise)...

The Thanos Impertaive #6 of 6 is a tough comic for me to review. It is in this issue that my love and great appreciation for Marvel’s fantastic cosmic stories fuses badly with my unbias thoughts on how this issue actually played out. You might be aware that everytime an issue of this series has been released, I’ve sung my praises from the rooftops and illuminated the sky with many a beautiful melody. But this issue was a real head scratcher. If I were to give this issue a mark out of ten, I’d give it a five,...

I’m not exactly sure why, but Ant-Man & Wasp is a book that I have really been looking forward to. Maybe it has to do with Hank Pym being one of the original Avengers, and an all around cool character who happens to be in charge of The Avengers Academy. And let’s not forget Eric O’Grady, the new Ant-Man and also one of my favorite characters of the last ten years. In Marvel’s latest previews publication you don’t even have to open up the book to realise that in February, Spider-Man could well be dead. The front cover quite proudly bosts the ‘Death Of Spider-Man‘ in a ridiculously large font, the sort you’d usually see on the cover of a Mark Millar comic to put emphasis on how awesome he thinks his writing abilites are. But not that that’s relevant.
Along with this bold statement on the front cover of the previews book, we have… well.. quite literally...

In a time of economic hardship it’s hard for people to pay double the normal price for anything. Whatever the item may be, it really better deliver if you’re charging that much extra for it. That said, Invincible #75 does nothing but deliver! In romantic terms, you might call it a “generous lover.”

The second annual Long Beach Comic Con has now come and gone and it is with a huge measure of relief that I can say that it has not merely bested last year’s event, but gave me every reason to believe it will continue to move in a positive direction as well. And, as strange as it sounds, I’d say it topped last year’s inaugural LBCC just by simultaneously growing larger yet staying essentially the same: by keeping the focus on sequential art, the people who make it, and the fans who love it.
