What’s Green, full of gamma rays, and totally awesome? No, it’s not Comic Impact staff  member, Butmac- it’s the Tattoo of the Month! Join us as we talk  with Dave Spencer about his love of the Hulk!

1. What is your name?
Dave Spencer.

2. How old are you and where do you live?
I’m 32 and live in scenic Baltimore, MD.

3. Do you read comics and if so what do you like to read?
Right now I’m reading The Hulk, even though it’s currently terrible (thanks, Loeb). I’m also a big fan of The Goon, The Spirit, The Ultimates, Batman, and some Superman.  That’s about it.

4. Do you have any favorite artists or writers?
Favorite artists: Will Eisner, Ernie Chan, Eric Powell, Sal Buscema, Tim Sale, John Romita Sr. (and I stress the Sr. part!) . Writers: Greg Pak, Mark Millar, Grant Morrisson, and a few others of not much note.

5. So what got you into tattoos?
Oh, I was a scratch artist when I was 18 or 19, having bought a reasonably priced Huck Spalding kit from the back of Tattoo Savage.  I tattooed my friends and local punk kids.  Good thing I’m not friends with any of them now, because all my tattoos looked like shit.  I can admit that now.

6. What is your comic book tattoo?
An Ernie Chan-penned Incredible Hulk being blasted by laser beams from the cover of The Incredible Hulk #224 .

7. What made you want to get that as your tattoo?
I’ve liked the Hulk just about as long as I liked anything.  I used to just sit in my room and stare at the Ernie Chan covers in some kind of suspended state of drooling enchantment.  It was pretty predictable that an Ernie Chan Hulk would one day go on my skin.

8. How long did it take?
3 sittings of about 2-3 hours.

9. Where did you get it done?
Marks of the Spark in Frederick, MD.

10. Have you ever met any of the artists or writers whose work your tattoo is based on?
No, and I don’t think I’d want to.

11. Do people know about your comic book tattoo?
Sure.

12. What is the funniest think that has happened to you when someone saw it?
Oh, people just smile or think it’s weird.  I do, however, have a portrait of Donna Reed on my left arm.  When people see that . . . well, they’re pretty creeped out.

13. Are you hoping to get more comic book ink?
Yep, my left leg is devoted to the Hulk—only stuff from the ’70s, though.  I used to want to get a Goon tattoo, but Powell has become way too popular.

14. What do you like to do when you’re not getting tattoos- such as where do you work and what kind of music do you like? Anything else you want to tell us?
I build sets for TV commercials and run a horror-themed art business called Morbid Decor, where I make Coffin shaped cabinets, lightboxes, lamps, soap, jewelry, etc.  Most of the time I’m traveling to horror conventions along the east coast, hocking my handmade goodies for mere pennies on the dollar.  Good Fun!

15. Great do you have a website or a myspace?
www.morbiddecor.etsy.com and myspace.com/morbiddecor.
