If you have been reading Comic Impact for sometime now, you know we have a Tattoo of the Month that we post on the 10th of every month! You also probably know that we’re all big fans of Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corps (which Sheldon needs to read). Well, it looks like Rex Douglas has taken his love of Hal Jordan to a new level with his kick ass Green Lantern tattoo!

1. What is your name?
Rex Douglas.

2. How old are you and where do you live?
I’m 34 yrs old and I live Pittsburg, KS.

3. Do you read comics and if so what do you like to read?
Yes, I read Green Lantern, Superman, Batman and JLA  is probably my favorite series right now but the Green Lantern corps is a close second.

4. Ok do you have any favorite artists or writers?
Yes, I am a big fan of the art of Jim Lee, Michael Turner (RIP) and Ethan Van Sciver. Writers that I like are Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Geoff Johns and Jerry Orday.

5. All right so what got you into tattoos?

Well, I have always liked them because I’m someone who loves art of any kind. I think body art is the most interesting to me because it is the ultimate expression of what people love and what has happened to them in their lives. I put off getting my first tattoo until I was 33 yrs old.

gltattoo6. What is your comic book tattoo?
I have a couple. I have a Hal Jordan Green Lantern on my calf and I have a bloody superman S on my back from the Death of Superman.

7. What made you want to get that as your tattoo?
I think a tattoo should be about something that you love, an experience that you have had or something that expresses who you really are. Since I’m a big a comic nerd I felt it was fitting that I go with one of my favorite comic characters.
I’ve always been into it, so I find it fitting that a comic tattoo be my first choice.

8. How long did it take?
About 2.5 hours.

9. Where did you get it done?
Punkture Tattoo in Joplin Missouri.

10. Have you meet any of the artists or writers that your tattoo is based on?
No.

11. Do people know about your comic book tattoo?
Yes, It’s not something that I hide. I do however have my tattoos in places where I can cover them easily if I’m in a social situation where tattoos aren’t well received.

12. What is the funniest thing that has happen to you when someone saw it?

I was eating at Hardees and all of the employees behind the counter came out to see my tattoo. They all wanted to see it and all of them told me it was the coolest tattoo they had ever seen.

13. Are you hoping to get more comic book ink?
Yes, I’m in the process of getting a Trinity half sleeve on my right arm: Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

14. What do you like to do when you’re not getting tattoos? Such as where do you work, and what kind music do you like? Anything you want to tell us?
Well, my other hobby is being a competitive strongman. Kind of odd for a comic nerd as I don’t fit the stereotypical comic book fanboy mold. I work for Social Security and I’m an active volunteer for the Special Olympics.

15. That’s great! Do you have a website or a myspace?

No, but my wife is always bugging me to get a myspace or facebook page.
