Figure Friday: Dr Manhattan

Published on March 6th, 2009

drmanhattanIf you don’t know who Doctor Manhattan is by now. STOP reading this blog and go read Watchmen or watch the film base on  Alan Moore, and Dave Gibbons Comic book.

Ok now is time to look at a new figure for this weeks  Figure Friday. We are going to look at the big blue guy from the second wave Watchmen  action figure  . Please note this is not the  Dr. Manhattan variant that is  made with translucent plastic and limited to 5000 pieces.

Package Description

A complex, multi-layerd mystery adventure, WATCHMEN in set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society and the ” Doomsday Clock ” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorshach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity but who is watching – the WATCHMEN?

This is the same as the way one figures.

Here is the hard part of this review as he comes with two sets of legs one that does a full 90 degrees. The other one-part set of legs does not move, as they are design for his god stand. (“ God exists and he’s American.”)

If you just put his god stand legs this is a GREAT figure as he looks like he is flying around in the air. But with his  other set of legs it looks just like a he would be part of the Blue man group. His head is only look side to side and does not move up and down. The range of motion in the arms is slightly limited and his torso does not do anything.

You got his  god  stand and he does look nice on the shelf by him self or with other figures. I have him next to my other Watchmen figures. Yet I still think he looks like someone who is in the Blue Man group when he is not doing his god stand.

Final Judgment: 7/10
Just because he does not do any GREAT dynamic poses but if your a fan of the book or the film or just Dr Manhattan  Then get this figure because it does look great also Lady’s I don’t think there going make a full nude  figure sorry for the bad news.

Bonus Question

Do you think David Bowie is talking about Dr Manhattan in I’m Afraid of Americans on his Earthling Album ?  When he says “God is an american Im afraid of americans Im afraid of the world”
