Casting News: Scott Pilgrim

Published on January 18th, 2009

Are you a Scottaholic? If you aren’t yet, immediately STOP reading this blog and go pick up Bryan Lee O’ Malley’s Scott Pilgrim, from Oni Press.

And if you’re already a Scottaholic like myself, you know that Scott Pilgrim is one of the best things to happen to comics in a looong time. There’s also a Scott Pilgrim film in the works, directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz ) and starring Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno, Arrested Development ) as Scott himself. Filming is due to start in Toronto in Spring 2009.

This past week we learned that the character of Knives Chau, a 17 year-old half Canadian/half Chinese schoolgirl and Scott’s former paramour, will be played by a newbie named Ellen Wong. The ex-girlfriend, who is still hopelessly after Scott’s affections, was the first one to use the word “I’M A SCOTTAHOLIC ” in Vol.2 ( Scott Pilgrim vs. The World ).

We also found out that Kieran Culkin (Igby Goes Down) will join the cast as Wallace Wells, Scott’s gay best friend and roommate.

The next Scott Pilgrim book is due on Feb 4th, and if you have not read this series, you are missing out on a one-of-a-kind spectacle. More about the Scott Pilgrim film and the upcoming book from Bryan Lee O’ Malley as details develop – so stay tuned once again.
